Into restorations & concours?

See, now I'm interested in restorations and concours cars, and can even get away with the fact that its a (rare) Nova, but why oh why are 99 out of 100 members on that forum uneducated retards who cannot string together a coherent sentence?

Apart from the original poster's posts, it's like reading a text message conversation between 13 year olds :(

I want to read on (am on page 9), but every time I read "wikkid sik init", or "i wot 1 of dem", I feel like [ALT]+[F4] :(

Fast forward to page 40/41. It's... stunning. What a huge amount of effort. Ok, it's a Nova and I hate them but... serious respect for that. It's exceptional.

I'm the only one thinking what a total waste of time and effort that whole project has been then?

Sure it's a totally crap car (Sorry lopez, it is) but it's not about the car, it's about the effort, attention to detail and the work that has gone into it. Pretend its your choice of car if it helps, Jez.

Indeed, if only he had picked something which wasnt a Corsa 1.2 twinport, but 20 years ago :(

To be fair, he hasn't. He has chosen a rare car of its type, much like the 106 Rallye, or the Vectra DTM.

Crap car at the end of the day, but not run of the mill like a 1.2 twinport.

Irrespective of how naff the car is it's still a peice of history - the guy enjoys being a part of the Vauxhall 'scene' and attending Vauxhall shows. Sure, we cant see the appeal but he can, and thus it's just the right sort of car for him.

He probably wonders what posseses you and me to throw vast amounts of cash at glass fronted main dealers for our overpriced German cars - different strokes for different folks..

It's definitely Fox - whilst he may be vocal about some things, he also has a lot of respect for many people when they do certain things - the attention to detail that the owner of that car has gone to is impressive - whether it be on a BMW, a classic Jaguar, or even a Vauxhall Nova - even though it's not the car he'd choose - he can see WHY it's been done, and can respect HOW it's been done.

He's always been like that.

WOW :O

That is a lot of attention to detail. I personally wouldn't bother with a concours car but respect to the guy for making such an effort and putting pride into his work.

Its a car he will know every inch of. He'll have tightened pretty much EVERY nut and bolt on the car, and i dare say he will probably always own it too.

I dare say it will be worth a few quid in years to come as well.

Wearing gloves to fit the exhaust so as not to leave fingerprints is just one example of his attention to detail!

Problem is he is building a musuem peice and not a car, if i was to restore a car, i would restore it to a nice level but no so far as i would have to either trailer it everywhere to shows or too scared to drive it.

He hasn't. The Nova Sport was a homologation special for rallying, it's nothing like the equivalent of a Corsa 1.2 twinport. If it was a 1.2 "Ski" I might agree with you.

It's an absolutely lovely build, regardless of what anyone thinks of the car.

Very amazing work, always incredible seeing concours cars, such attention to detail, but always seems a bit of a waste as they will never be driven properly when you put all that hard work in. Only coming out in the sunshine etc.
