Does the PS3 have Gigabit LAN connection?

lol - ok - Next question please!

What is the speed of the wireless? 54g? or 108?

Thanks

Has anyone managed to get Gigabit connection on a PS3? The lights on my Dell switch always show an amber/green rather than green/green when the PS3 is connected to it.

Guess it could be dodgy wiring or something perhaps.

My PC hooked up to the same switch shows as green/green. Any ideas what the duplex/networks settings should be set for a PS3?

When you get a moment, any chance you could jot down your network settings.

I've tried various combinations with no joy!

I have my PS3, NAS, MacBookPro on a gigabit network switch. All devices show as connected at Gigabit. I don't know what server I can run on Mac OS X to copy a file across and measure the speed. I can copy files from my NAS t the PS3, but have no way of measuring the speed, accurately. I am fairly sure I have picked 1000 Full Duplex on the PS3 ('ll check later).

You have too much technology, hand it over.

Super!

I did have a play with the network settings on the PS3 a while ago and gave up when I failed to connect to anything. Rapidly went back to automatic!

I fail to see the need for Gigabit LAN on a PS3. There is nothing you can do that needs anything faster than normal 100mbit fast Ethernet.

It's pretty much standard to have GigE these days, and it's probably rather useful in places like japan which have 1gbps broadband :D.

What are you actually stuck on?

Copying files to the PS3 from a machine on your network (using WMP11)?

On my regular machines I use gigabit too. You know that normal 100mbit only lets you copy at 11 megabytes a second (on a very good day?). Copying large files this is annoying and tedious. On my Gigabit machines I can copy form anywhere between 17 megabytes a sec to 50 megabytes per sec.

I am assuming this is also faster using the ps3 (haven't actually got it setup yet). When I copy large 1gb plus files to the ps3 it will save me a lot of time.

What settings I need to use to get gigabit enabled. Setting it to automatic doesn't seem to enable gigabit. I imagine its the duplex stuff I need to get right.

I pick Wired Connection> Manual> 1000BaseT Full-Duplex
Earlier on I connected my laptop to the gigabit switch and set it up as a web server. I was downloading files through the ps3 browser at 17 megabytes a second. This is obviously faster than 100mbit (12.5 mb/s max), It won't go much faster because I am using a laptop HDD.

Right given this a go and couldn't get it to connect to the network at all with 1000BaseT Full-Duplex.

I then decided to change the network cable going from the PS3 to the patch in the wall and hey presto, it sprung into life! rp2000 thanks for letting me know your settings.

This should certainly speed things up no end now when i'm streaming/shifting files backwards and forwards.
