Paypal confusion ...

hi guys

Wonder if someone can explain this and make sense unlike the paypal help pages.

Ok i have registered for a paypal account and have a working email/password for it. I am currently waiting for Paypal to deposit the small funds in my current account to confirm before I am ready to go.

I need to send £50 to a friend of mine for a case which was shipped for me.

If I simply transfer from my current account to his through paypal are there any extra charges?

Which option do I select, services/other, goods or other?

Your friend will be charged for recieving the money, I think it's ~3%. You will not be charged.

So absolutely no fees on my part, no transfer fees, no setup fees etc. and when i transfer the 50 it's instant.

None, none & none at all.

However, if you are transferring the money from your current account and not directly off your debit card, it can take up to 14 days to leave your bank and get to them.

Hmm not sure Wiggins. I have a current account with Barclays with a connect/debit card (I think) so that's the acct. i've registered paypal with.

You should be able to add your debit card instantly and send money over instead of setting up an 'Echeque' which is basically a Direct Debit from your account to theirs.

Go to the page where you can add a credit/debit card and pay the funds that way. It is always the best way anyhow because if there are any repercussions, you can claim a chargeback on your card.

I just set up the debit card Wiggins.

Transferred £50 to my mate and £51 has been debited from my account? :S

Any idea why?

If you are sure PayPal has taken 51 pounds from your account, but the transaction records state 50 pounds ... then phone them to query it!

Apparently it was taken for verification of the bank account, which I've since removed in place of using the debit card. Don't think I'll bother adding my bank account again.
