was after a spare budget player in addition to the stone plus 4gb (exellent device)looked at the 2gb d2, didnt realise it accepted sdhc cards so when i found out bought one for £49.99 (including a charger and a crystal case)
so if i get an 8gb card for £15 seems a good deal to me, the only nag is talk on the forums of a 3000file limit on the card but this is debateable.
anyway will compare sq to my daughters classic 80gb and nano and the creative and see if it lives up to the hype

ok total lack of interest ,but never mind suppose i should stick to headfi:)
anyway wasnt sure when i first listened to the d2 but thats cos it was a badley encoded mp3, put my daughters old wma of voice within at 320k and wow im so pleased with the sound of this thing you just have to tweak all those equaliser settings.
the weak link now is the headphones even though they are my favorite budget ones the px100.
torn between the grado sr80s or the senn 595s:)

The 3000 file limit isn't really a problem. Especially as it keeps getting increased. If you stick on the latest firmware it raises it to 4000 files on internal and 4000 on SD.

I picked up a 8gb DAB and have a 16gb memory card in it. It's a bloody good player. I've switched across to the 1.55 firmware as it's fine. Haven't tried the X.57 yet.

Headphone wise - I'd go with the 595s.

yes was thinking upgrading the firmware 2.57 and 3.57 seem to be the ones reccomended for my model but if the 8mb card works ok then maybe no rush to do this.
as regards the 595s i hear they give more a true reproduction of the source music and are more solid than the grados plus 2yr warranty? just that some people love the grado sound :)

I'm on the 1.55 firmware as the 4.55 firmware doesn't have a couple of features I use. Will be putting on the 1.57 when I have an hour or two to spare. Doesn't seem to change that much though.

I used to have 2 pairs of Sennheiser HD580's and I loved them. They broke though *about a year apart and after several years of hard service* and were not repairable. So I ordered some HD650's instead. :D They're pretty good, but I'm finding them to be much more relaxed that then 580's Could be that I'm just used to the 580 sound and the 650's will take some getting used to.

The 595's are meant to be good though. Especially for the price.

always thought the 650s needed an amp to shine and that the 595s are the top of the range for non amped senns or can the cowon drive them ok? (havn't tried them so i cant say myself)

I've got an amp. ;)

ah that explains it:) dont think my budget will stretch to that at the moment but want something in the £100 range b4 xmas.
one thing i have found out is that my player is early 07 stock looking at the serial number so ive now updated to 2.57 , that equaliser is amazing with the bandwidth settings ect ect the sounds just sounds so BIG! and detailed at the same time (havn't a clue how to describe sound)

I have a 2gb non dab with a 4gb card

your yet to discover the best thing, battery life :D

and it's got some serious output as well, ALLOT higher than any ipod I've come across (great for line level stuff)

oh i should clarify lol. both the headphone output and the dock line out were better. actually there wasnt as much between the headphone out and line as as some people think. still, my old d2, my iphone, and my sony all fall FAR short of my soundcard. my sony just doesnt like driving an amp at all.

dont worry though, i dont use my iphone for music. i dont like reliance on tagging or the lack of a decent eq. i have my sony for that:)

heard its great battery life and its still on 4 bars , how much faster does it discharge with the sd card ? anyway the zen stone (my other player) is 6 to 10 hrs so if its anything over that its fine
