So I got a really really strange letter today which seems to be very suspicious asking me for an amount of money from DHL via a 3rd Party Receivables LTD.

Dear Sir/Madam

Re: Our Client: DHL Express
Amount: 8.89
Account No: 137483921

To ensure a speedy delivery service DHL made payment of the above, on your behalf, on the goods they delivered to you that were subject to Customs and Excise Duty.

DHL sent you an invoice and statement advising you of these charges. To-date it appears that you have not reimbursed these costs and we ask that you remedy this by return.

Please forward us your cheque made payable to Receivables Ltd ensuring that you quote your account reference number, or complete the credit card slip below.

Yours Faithfully,

<Signature>

Receivables Ltd

Please complete and forward to the above address of Receivables Ltd.

Immediately I thought....wait a second why the hell are DHL going through a 3rd party? Anything I have had delivered to me by them which required Customs paid they would contact me direct to pay before they would deliver any goods to me. Last thing I had delivered by them was probably last October which was a Halloween costume that I had to go into the courier station and pay them the import duty.
U also don't have an account number with DHL and never have done. I checked their site and any accounts they set up start with 13 or 18 so it is plausible this is an attempt to make it look genuine.
They are also asking for my FULL card details and a SIGNATURE, if anything this just seems like they are attempting to commit some fraud since with those details they could easily make purchases and even a fake card.
I assume I am right to be suspicious about this and just wondering if everyone else agrees with me.

I have never known DHL to pay customs on behalf of a client. They always collect when they deliver.

yeah 'cos all companies ask for payment by cheque these days,

i'd say dodgy (or very badly written)

if unsure phone DHL on the number on their website, asking iif they have any outstanding charges for your address.

Never trust a company that has dodgy MIDI music in the background of its website :p

Yeah thats what I thought, its just totally strange if you ask me! Though it would appear you can even send your own request for cash from them lol! I may ring DHL and let them know whats happened anyways since they should know if someone is trying to claim money in their name.

I have never known DHL to pay customs on behalf of a client. They always collect when they deliver.

Or as I say....they dont deliver until you pay it

I was meant to ask - was the very suspicious letter from the very suspicious supermarket?

:D

I think you should pay them immediately before they start proceedings against you. THey look like a serious, no-sh** company from where I'm standing. ;)

Even though when on Google Maps their address is punched in it comes up with a restaurant.
