Really Suspicious Letter Recieved Today!

DHL have delivered things to be and billed me for custom changes later. However, that letter doesn't look anything like the template they use.

Are there a load of terms and conditions on the back of the letter you received?

That website is hilarious too. :)

I received something similar a while ago about the duty payment on an item I'd imported through DHL about 18 months previously.

I called DHL direct and it turns out they had made an almighty ****-up on loads of their shipping and had never asked for the duty from the customers. Obviously I was a little annoyed with them, but I just paid DHL direct and they were really apologetic about it.

This was about 3 months ago.

Call DHL direct as it looks like someone jumping on DHLs error to take some people for a ride.

DHL often pay customs duties on packages so that they can be delivered promptly, and charge the fee's at a later date, however, when they do this they'll send you a DHL letter asking for the charges, not one from a debt collection agency.

i suppose the pertinant question is, have you recieved anything that has been brought in internationally by DHL in the last 2 years?
anyway, if you have, just give 'em a call and ask.

Ignore the letter. I would personally contact trading standards or someone about them. They're obviously a scam company and should be shut down.

DHL usually send a letter with their name/details one it asking for payment (i've got a couple filed away here somewhere I think), rather than use a third party.

If you've any doubts give DHL customer services a ring and ask to speak to accounts (or whoever can deal with outstanding fees) to check direct with them.

As everyone has mentioned DHL do usually send a letter. However, when this happened to me DHL admitted they had made an error with a pretty large number of clients and the letter simply hadn't been sent out.

Get in touch with DHL directly and see if there is an issue.
