buying a write off?

Hi all,

Think I am starting a new job as of monday, second interview but I have been told by the agency it is a dead cert. Got a run around at the moment but its slowly falling apart. Other than a few body jobs on that I want to start my project again.

Got a vw corrado in the garage and I want to put a new engine and running gaer in. Would love an R32 but prices are still through the roof. So, I am looking at getting a Golf V6 4Motion to put in it.

You can get them from £2.5K upwards if you shop around but I don't really want to strip a car that is in good condition.

Does anyone know how you can go about finding a written off car that is for sale? I will be checking local salvage yards but was wondering if you lot knew any other ways of finding one.

Isn't the V6's pretty heavy? would you not be bettet going for a tweaked 1.8t?

Also isn't the Audi 3.2 pretty much the sameengine?

If it's been written off wont you then need to spend a shedload on bodywork repairs?

Why would you want to go to the all the hassle of changing the V6 out of a 4Motion for a different V6?

He wants a V6 4motion engine to put in his corrado, as R32 engines are too expensive...

I assume the body of the donor would be scrapped.

arent the V6's out of the 4motion's very similar to the old VR6 engine? hence why not just get a VR6 corrado?

1.8T sounds intersting.

I guess thats the whole point, he already has a corrado with no engine in it, and would like to, as cheaply as possible, install a V6 effectively making a VR6 model.

My little Golf only has a 1.8 NA and I was annihilated by a MK2 GTI the other day, dont think it was standard though. Didn't really give chase as i was on route back from BK's and didn't want to spill my juice

Back on topic my choice would be the grunt (and noise) from the VR6 :cool:

problem is vr6 is what, 190bhp? The 1.8T can be 265bhp with very little work (ie a remap which it'd need i assume anyway) if you get the right revision

You dont get the VR6 grunt from the 20vt. Al thought Supercharging VR6's gives excellent results.

But isn't the VR6 a really heavy engine which negatively impacts the handling? Don't get me wrong I am a no replacement for displacement kinda guy but in a Carrodo wouldn't the lighterweight 20v be a better choice with the reduced weight also helping performance?

Both completely different engines.

But the 1.8T is lighter, and is cheaper to tune.

That is the engine I would pick.

MK2 i would imagine is a fair bit lighter and has the 2litre 16v?

The 1.8 is only about 105/110bhp?

But if I could afford it, I would pick the VR6 with a supercharger bolted on

Really depends if you want the grunt from the V6 or the woosh from the 1.8T.

Just for those wondering, I chose the V6 due to the fact it is the less common conversion, I can rip the 4motion system off it and put that on the corrado as well and I want to supercharge it.

I know it is a lot more work, that it will upset the delicate handling of the rado but think ultimately it will be more fun.

As soon as I get my G60 charger back from the garage and get that car on the road the faster I can start this project.

mk3 vr6 is about 17*bhp

if you get the engine from the 4 motion, its 24 valve and dohc, it has 200+bhp out the box.

vr6>relatively standard 20vt

Is this inablity to say the entire name of the car purely a VW scene thing? I've seen "rocco" and "rado", why don't we also have: olf, ora, sat, lo, reg, ta, ton, ran and to?
