Hi Folks,

Last night I was picking my Dad up from work, we went to Tesco as mother wanter something to drink.. so back he comes and down go the cans on the floor, I pull off and turn to the right, low and behold Dad hasn't got hold of the beer and the can cracks off the plastics and sprays some on the floor from the can pressure..

Now i'm left with a putrid smell in my cars cabin.. any advice how to get rid of it short of getting a new mat (Which he can buy if needs be lol)

Just use some household carpet cleaner on it with lots of hot water. Or just buy a new mat / mats.

Sorry to hear about this West. Lets hope you dont get pulled by the cops for a routine stop. "Been drinking sir"!!!

Leave the lager smell in there i say, it will give the car a small amount of masculinity ;)

The best way to cure lager stench is to pour milk on the seats. Either that or have a cat wee on the carpet.*

Seriously though, I think sodium bicarb may well be your friend on this one.

*Do NOT do this!!

Park up near some tramps, they will soon be sucking any remaining remnants out of your carpet for you. If this fails get a job at a brewery, then when you get into your car after work you wont smell a thing.

What is the point?

I think they call them "jokes" nowadays. Bloody youngsters.

Was the spillage on the mat or on the carpet? If it was on the mat them stick it in the washing machine as already suggested. If it was on the carpet then take a trip to Halfords or similar where you will find many prducts which claim to not only mask an odour, but to get rid of it. I used some stuff on the carpet of my car a few years ago after a friend spilled an entire tub of garlic sauce all over the carpet. It stunk to high heaven but after a bit of scrubbing with warm water and carpet cleaner the crap was removed and the smell was removed with substance I got from Halfords. I think it was made by Simoniz and was in the air freshener section. It was a small spray bottle which had a pine fragrance but it did actually remove the bas smell rather than mask it.

If that doesn't remove the stench, you'll probably have to get the carpets shampooed by someone with one of those special vacuum cleaners.

off beer really is a terrible smell my brother in law had a can of Guinness explode in the passenger foot well of his car. and it did explode aswell the can was literally in half
in the end he had to have it professionally cleaned the roof liner seats dash carpets door cards it stunk :(

on another sour note my gran left a leaking bottle of milk on her back seat for about a week as she did not drive that often she got quite a shock when it came to bingo evening lol

when you are in halfords m8 , you will need two products from the auto-glym range
1. Interior shampoo(the one with the trigger and green label)
2.. High-Tech cleaning hand pad

i would be very , very suprised if you could smell lager after using these as instructed on the back..........but if you still can.... you need to buy one more product from the Aoto-Glym range
3. Odour Eliminator(purple Label) ..;):D
