Seems to have been overlooked with the release of Hancock and Wanted this weekend, but this should also be on people's list to go see.

It's based on a Stephen King story, done by the guy who did Shawshank Redemption - but expect something a bit bleaker this time round....

Trailer here

Will definitely check this out - loved the original and apparently it's quite close to the book. Apparently Darabont was offered twice as much budget if he changed the ending, but unusually for filmmakers these days, he stuck to his guns and left it as it was.

I've heard a lot of people on here say it looks terrible and what not, but the Daily Mail critic (My mum buys it ok!) who is such an arse gives it 4 stars so it can't be TOO bad. That said, there's about 6 other films I want to see before this :)

That ending was ******* stupid, would have been much better if they had left it like the story.

Can you tell me how the story ends without spoiling it for everyone else, i.e. use a warning or whatever, please! :)

I also thought the ending was pathetic in the movie. I really didn't like it at all. The rest of the movie was alright though, but nothing amazing.

Spoiler........

The ending in the story was they just drive off into the Mist not knowing what awaited them of how much of the world was left. The film version was just pants imo, lets make him kill them all then two seconds later the Mist clears and the army turn up!!?? crap.

The ending to the film was superb, and much better than in the novel from the sounds of it. It's not like the army turns up in a massively unlikely coincidence, the reason they take the action that they do is because they can hear the army (but obviously at the time aren't aware who it is).

Heard Kermode yesterday saying Frank Darabont was offered twice the budget by the studio if he would change the ending, you have to at least admire someone who will stick to his guns like that, and for me the film is all the better for it. It might not be the most remarkable film overall, but the ending is just about as memorable as it gets, and far more so than if they just drove off.

Really liked this film, one of the best films based on a book I think.
The ending was brilliant I thought, was nice to something a bit different.
Only thing I really hated was the kid's acting, and did anyone else notice the Sherminator is in the film? :D
