So who didn't buy a new GPU, why ?, whats your plan ?

Yup - already had one, got a second one cheap (new) - 2x 8800GT SLI for under £200 total. They perform right behind the 9800GX2 which is still running pretty well against the new cards - the only thing likely to be worth upgrading to from it would be the 4870X2 and I'm not an ATI fan.

Sorry mate I'm being a bit slow!

So you already owned a single 8800GT, now you have bought a second cheap but new 8800GT, is that £200 quid you paid for both then?

And now your going to take out your INTEL motherboard and buy an nVidia SLI mobo and build a new SLI system?

I already have 1x 8800GT as per my sig and I've recently purchased another - both are new but both were bought when on sale - so I only paid a total of £198 for both.

I have the system in my sig and another system running E6600, Gigabyte N650i SLI DS4 and a 7950GX2, I'm going to put both of the 8800GT in the second system for gaming and put something like an 8500GT in my main system - which is used for internet, programming, etc.

If I didn't already have the SLI board then my options would be different :D

EDIT: Though if your looking at buying a whole new system from scratch 2x 8800GT and a cheap 650/750 SLI board does look quite attractive imo... aslong as you stick with gigabyte - no one else seems to manage to make stable nFail boards.

I see, thanks for the run down Rroff! :)

Well rather you than me mate but enjoy your journey into SLI . . .

Will chat with you in 6 months and get a honest appraisal on your experiences. One thing I would be interested in is for you to keep an eye on your leccy bills and see if the power draw of a 8800GT SLI system is noticable?

right what we talking about! :o

I'm no stranger to SLI - I've run 7950GX2 and 8500GT SLI systems.

I don't pay the electricity bill here... thank goodness... and the person who does is rich as **** :D

I didn't buy a new GPU as such :P

I currently have an 8800GTX and Q6600. Before this I was quite addicted to upgrading. But now PC games aren't really pushing my system anymore, so I don't see much reason to upgrade. 'Course it would be nice to get some AA in Crysis, but that's the only game that's really worth buying a new card for right now.

hmmmm

after a days xboxing, i think i need to re-evaluate my last answer.

i was imminently going to do a huge upgrade - cpu, mobo, ram and graphics

however i realised today, i have a hatful of X360 games i have barely touched. untill that console becomes past it, i may well wait. My current pc in my bedroom does HD DVD just fine, so thats ok, and gamign is covered, so the logical question is why buy now.

so, all being well i will hold off untill i can get a serious bargain :)

Hopefully I press Checkout on my order next week, but I seriously can't wait for a 4870x2, I just need to have my new system next week and the impatience is killing me
