GTX 280 down over £150 since launch....!!!!? Misprice?

Thats more short supply than anything else - nVidia wanted to bring out the G92 8800GTS and suppliers artificially added the price increase as they knew they would be in demand - just normal economics...

ps3ud0

Sure but it was in response to beh* comment.

Buying on launch day and beating the automated sales software can net you a good deal. Especially if the supplier messed up the price or they have a few loss leaders.

I agree that there are times in which buying on lunch day can net you a 'good deal' but i think all things considered, it's better to wait a couple of months and get it for 30-40% cheeper.

Must be a bit of a blow to those who thought the GTX280 might follow in the footsteps of the 8800 GTX and be the fastest thing around for a year and a half, only to find it's dropped over £100. Swings and roundabouts, folks.

wished i did and i would have waited a week and got my HIS 4870 for £50 cheaper than i paid for it on launch day

I'm not sure how you can fail to see that cards will drop in price a week after the initial launch day gouge, it's happened for years.

If you want the latest toys quickly you pay for it if you have a little patience your a week late to the party but you got the money for a lot more drinks :D.

I can't understand anyone who pays top whack for a computer component just because they can't wait for a whole week to buy it. I mean, yeah, back when I was 12 I used to get like that about toys, but then I grew up... :p

EDIT - Don't get me wrong I still get excited about things, I just won't waste good money simply by being impatient.

Naha, I liked that one.

I would be beyond livid if I paid launch price for those things :p

You can almost get two now for the price of the factory overclocked 280s on release

Its nice that we have two strong companies competing again. The consumer will win the day!!!

As for release prices, its about supply and demand, small supply and high demand, so they sell the products as a premium. They are in the driving seat, most people would sell higher.

Patience can save you hundreds of pounds when buying pc equipment!

Competition is a great thing. At the moment, it seems to be driving pricing. The natural progression from this will be that the next stage will be to really drive innovation and performance.

There were lots of rumours going around that the ati cards were going to be really good, but what I wish I'd done was bought a crossfire motherboard - I was holding off buying a graphics card until the 4800's were released, but Inever expected to see such promising crossfire performance that I'd actually consider buying two of them.

Hi there

You don't need an AMD Crossfire mainboard for Crossfire as Crossfire will work in Intel based motherboards. :)

Not if it's not an sli motherboard in the first place it won't :D

Bought a single slot motherboard because the nvidia sli performance / support is generally so rubbish. Ah well.
