I'm over 30, and I have to say that generally speaking I find most modern games lacking.
Sure, they have pretty graphics, and shiny water and metal and what not...but to be honest most of them dont have the gameplay of older games. Ironically enough I find that when people ask me what my top 5 games of the last 30 years are, all 5 end up being pre-2000 titles.
I think what it boils down to is that in the "old" days, games couldnt do the shiny graphics, so they had to sell you their product based on its gameplay. Whereas today, they can simply throw some screenshots on some websites and the back of the boxes and sell it on people going "ooh", "wow" and "look at those graphics!"
To be honest, I am not sure whether that says more about how the developers have changed, or more about how the playerbase has changed.
