Question for the older (30+) playing game members

34 here. Probably enjoy games more now than when I was a kid to be honest - as I've got older my patience has increased. I think I only ever completed a couple of games on my ZX Speccy.....I would always get bored after a few plays.

My "golden age" was 10 years ago when I was playing Quake2 on-line. However (as mentioned above) once I hit 30 my reflexes started to drop and I couldn't keep up - and the teenagers talking rubbish all game started to drive me up the wall.

Don't play many shooters now - mainly RTS and RPG's. Just something to keep my mind busy between naps :)
 
lol seriously, it's nothing to do with the gameplay of games degenerating. You can't really make a fair comparison since you're much older, probably think differently, have more things to worry about...etc, more stress and responsibility when you were young playing those games ages ago. Plus there's the nostalgia factor...etc.

I'm 34 and don't play as much as I used to primarily because my computer isn't up to it - but I do like the old strategy/wargame. I play Combat Mission which is 8 years old now, and still very good. I also like games like Red Orchestra, Operation Flashpoint and Medieval Total War II. But lately I've not had the opportunity to play anything much.

Well I say it is because the gameplay of games is degenerating so ner !

I'll take the gameplay of UO, Baldurs Gate 2, Dungeon Master, Lords of Midnight, Carmageddon, Masters of Magic and so on, over their modern counterparts any day :)

Combat Mission is a superb game, brilliant tactical war simulation that, spent many years playing that one :)

Steve magarret here lol (older members will get this) ok Elite on the bbc m was wire frame brilliant,so todays games are graphically excellent super fast depending on hardware but all lack originality sadly, but will we ever see an orignal title again methinks not everything that could be as already been done.I prefer strategy and a smattering of 3d shooters doom halflife C&C warcraft starcraft but find myself too long between titles released which i will play..
Please please someone do another syndicate wars:eek::eek:
 
I find its the company you keep whilst gaming that makes or breaks it and its not always the game that makes it fun but the things you say and do ingame that count ..

a mix of older mates and young know it all's can make the dullest of games interesting ... thank the devil for Ventrillo !!!

ill be gaming until my wrists sieze up ...
 
Just over 30 and I find I get bored of newer games much quicker than I used too. Even losing the will to upgrade my PC because most games just aren't worth it.

Gone back to playing Ultima 7 at the moment with the Exult frontend. Mass Effect was the last straw for me. Very dissapointing.

Probably a combination of things for my lack of interest, graphics over gameplay, no decent RPG'S any more; they all seem to go too far into the action/rpg genre. Too much hype surrounding new releases always leads to dissapointment, too much influence from the console market (lack of PC exclusives), and coming to believe that mmo's just aren't worth the time and money.

Sounds as though I hate all gaming reading that back, but I still enjoy and can happily spend hours replaying the older 'classics'
 
With a lack of time (due to work) and cheating rife in MP games, I find it hard to like many games, and those that I do like tend to be ruined by cheaters.
 
32 and my reactions seem to have slowed down, but I'm still sharp when I concentrate enough... lol and drink a few cups of strong coffee :D

COD4 is all I play now as I like hardcore and the looks, feel of the game, would enjoy it more if my mates were online but I'm still happy to run around on my own and kick ass...
 
Got bored of the latest games like Bioshock. Dont even bother with a lot of FPS's any more because i lose interest and dont finish them.

I still love the Half Life games though, i the HL games as they are like watching a film.

I play games like COD4 online. I like nwn online and still think the SP game is ok. Im hoping i will like Mass Effect.
GRID has me hooked.

I still go back and play Homeworld every now and again.
 
50 and I play some of the new games but take away the fancy graphics
and all you have is a 3rd rate game.

The game I love most is Rescue On Fractalus (Atari 8800XL)
and Deus Exe.

Rescue On Fractalus on a PC now that would be good :)
 
37 here, and i too find it difficult to find games that will hold my attention for long. I think the last game that really caught my interest was CoH...

lots of these threads going up at the moment, is someone having a mid-life crisis ?
 
I'm 47 and I was picky right from the start. I would say that I only complete (or even play for any length of time) about one game in ten. If that. To give you some idea, here are some games I never finished because I got bored with them:

Deus Ex
Half-Life
Half-Life 2
MOH:AA


and a load more- you get the idea. But when I do find a game I like, it gets played a LOT. There are a few games I've played through once and then stopped, but that's rare because the only games I really enjoy are the ones which have enough variation that they can be played more than once and in different ways. Top of this pile is Nethack, which has more ways toplay than you would believe possible. But I don't think I've changed as I got older - I've always been this picky.
