Had a can of diet coke in my hand, took a swig at a red light and obviously the copper thought it was something else. Fair enough i thought, but then they looked for ANY excuse, made me open my boot, kicked my tires and checked my lights. Are so many cops egos so fragile they can't admit they were wrong? Honestly i thought the next step was a breathalyser! I was driving the focus as well, not exactly a boyracer car lol. they got bored and let me go with a 'drive safe' message..

How old are you? And what time was it?

If i remember rightly, the laws been changed in that people can be pulled over for no reason and be randomly checked by the police, without suspicion or doing anything wrong. If your young, male, and out driving late at night, id understand why they would want to give you the once over. Its better than scraping you off a tree later on.

So, entirely within their rights, and I wouldnt have a problem. If they had attitude then maybe, but if they just stopped me thinking i was drinking when I wasnt, checked my car over making sure it was safe and let me go whilst being ok about it, then I dont see the problem.

He'd had a reason to pull you over then took the opportunity to do a routine check.

Why are so many people bothered by this? If your car is legal whats the problem?!

26, not exactly a spring chicken.. 11:20?

I did detect a "we're gonna get something here" attitude from the younger 30? one.. but i think the older 45 ish ? dude was uninterested and wanted to go.

Well to me its kind of embarassing, just near my gaff on the side of the road next to a police van getting searched like some bloody crimminal. They could see the lights were on and working, the boot search was what really annoyed me tbh.

The only time ive even been stopped was when I was a passenger in a car with 5 guys in it comming back from bowling at about 12:30am. They pulled us for "having slightly crossed the white line on a bend" and took the oportunity to brethalise the driver, question him, stick him in the back of the car for about 30 mins chatting at him, check the car over, ask us questions etc etc etc...

There was a definate feeling of them looking for something, but as we hadnt done anything wrong we werent bothered.

Not bothered from a legal point of view, guess i'm just ranting ;) Do people normally get their boot searched? Not the first time i;ve been pulled, nothing ever came of any time but this is the first time i got searched, something tells me i dissapointed one of them so badly that i was'nt a crimminal he just had to dig something up hopefully.

Yeah, having your boot seached is nothing new. They just check over the car looking to see if there is anythign dodgy, ask you to open the boot etc, its more of a check to see if you panic or dont want to than to actually check. Did they search your glove box?

I know its like people think police are there for emergency's only, he was doing his job, stopping you and seeing if the car was road worthy, next you will be moaning about police who sit about in your area doing nothing.

If I was pulled by the police the last thing I would do is come on the internet and moan that they where doing there job.

Any good gangster keeps his contraband under the bonnet. Volvos were ideal for this because this is where the spare tyre was too

I thought you were going to tell us they fined you anyway just for drinking the coke, one hand off the steering wheel or whatever. Its happened before afaik

It was a woman to drunk some water while stationary at the lights who was fined. the press made such a big thing about it i think it was dropped.

Never made sence anyway, your not allowed to drink, yet its perfectly legal to take a hand of the wheel to smoke, answer police radio, use radio in a taxi, and even change gear!

Same happened to me but i was apparently "loitering in a car park". Basically just after i got my first car i was chatting to a mate on MSN and he wanted to have a look at my car. I said i need some fuel so I'd meet him at Tesco car park in 10 mins. Got there and was showing him the car when all of a sudden this Police car rolls up on us.

He called in support and then me and my mate were searched. Then he searched the car, i was ******** bricks as i had a few "backup" cds in the glove box but he didn't seem to notice these. Then we were sent on our way, i wasn't to bothered as i suppose it did look a bit dodgy.

EDIT: He checked everywhere inc in and around the spare wheel but didnt look under the bonnet.

Embarassing? That's childs play. An embarassing stop would be one where you are pulled at an army checkpoint, you and your 3 mates are ordered out of the car at gunpoint and stood at the side of the road, hands above your head, about 10 soldiers pointing SA80's at you whilst half of the country drives past very slowly to rubberneck.

I don't know, on the one hand you could say he might as well leave you when he realises he was wrong. But then, why not do a few checks while he's there?

I've been pulled quite a few times, at least 10. Mostly for caning it, yet the only pts I've had were for parking in zig zags. :(

That would be fun if it happened in Winchester :D

No, 'twas here at home in NI. A paramilitary shooting had happened somewhere nearby just before we arrived at the checkpoint and 4 guys were seen leaving in a silver Passat so we fitted the description perfectly.
