I know that you can play them on your pc but do you have to do something to the file in resepect of putting it on to dvdr and playing through your DVD player.
My Tv is capable of 1080P but my Dvd player doesnt recognise the format even though it can play well almost everything else its a Samsung 970 built in HD.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I can't find a Samsung 970, so I don't know what device you have. However, no DVD player that I know will play HD content and very few will play WMV at all.

You have several options, you either have to convert the video into a format it can play, use tv-out on your PC, use something like a PS3 or get a non-HD version of the video in question.

Thanks for the replies peeps - Question if there are not many players capable out there apart from ps3s and a few dvd players .. why are these files now becoming more prevelant? As there are only a small element of people able to actually play them in the format and resoloution they are intended for.

The problem is if you convert the HD footage to something the DVD player will work with your going to loose the HD quality, the only way to see true HD 720p, 1080p files is to play them direct from your PC to a HDTV, converting it to work on your standard DVD player is pointless as you wont be watching it in HD.

Ah, these are files you're downloading? People create these for streaming to an Xbox 360.

Thank You for the replies I am now officially educated on this subject - pity even though we have 2 xbox 306s in the house none of them have Hard drives :( both arcades .. my eldest son in his infinite wisdome sold his 360 premium on a whim and got an arcade in exchange :(

Once again many thanks

You could always just burn the files to a dvd 5 or 9 (dual layer) and play back from the disc. I do this when i go else where with my 360 and don't have my PC with me and it works a treat
