Dragon Age: More info July 9th 2008

Been waiting ages for this.

I want to be psyched, but it has taken so long to develop I dont want to get eager again only to be let down with no development news forever.

I honestly thought this was going to be vaporware for a while.

The wiki site is saying Q1 2009 release date. Couple in a bit of slippage and we're probably looking at about 1year minimum before the game is out :/

The current best guess is Q1, but that date is based on hints from EA, mainly in press releases about expected revenue to investors. Bioware have said nothing, but used a lot of words to say it :D

Even now (on the official forums) they are trying to pretend this is all a surprise and they knew nothing about the change to the official site

As for slippage, who knows, but the game has been in production for 4 years and has been in a playable form for at least a couple. I'm still hoping for January.

July 9th is my birthday, hoping whatever news it is will be exciting!

I intend to check Bioware's site first thing in the morning, and, in the extremely unlikely event that said news is in the form of a playable demo,I will cancel my birthday, as none of the presents I'd receive could possibly top that!:D

I usually check the forums every other day to see if there's any interesting going on, mainly just people posting awful ideas thought. Still made it on to my bookmark toolbar though =D

Sounds great, should be a massive hit with me.

Yep, I gave up posting on them a year or two back, even if they did listen to us (which would've been a bad idea as I'm sure Bioware are better at making games than us forum-lizards:p) the game has no doubt reached a stable form long ago and nobody can influence its development much anymore.

The only influence the community/lizards can have is to show there is sufficient interest in the game. Without that, this game, and many other decent titles could've got canceled before we'd even hear about it.

Like Movie studios, game developers are keen to produce games with a 'built in audience'. Hence the many iterations of sequels that are put out. Dragon age is original IP AFAIK, and entering a crowded fantasy RPG marketplace, so it was probably fairly vunerable to those kind of marketing decisions.

Not 100% true; developers can and do listen to what the community say on the forums and elsewhere. Certain developers do it more-so than others, but it does happen :).

Can't wait for this, Bioware has yet to disappoint me :D

I'm a massive, massive fan of Bioware, one of the few developers that I rate highly.

The only blip for me was Mass Effect. It was a good game, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't up to Bioware's normal "epic" standards as I expected. Hopefully the sequals will offer more.
