Bioshock - How to kill big Daddies

take lots of photos of them, to get extra damage mods. Then Just waste them with whatever you have to hand.

They can still be a little tricky, but you shouldn't really have too much bother with them after a while. Freezing/Shocking them helps get a bit of distance and breathing space.

I found them moderately tough early in the game too, since most of the tactics mentioned here aren't possible then:

-Very limited ammo / cash to buy ammo
-Lack of decent weapons e.g. grenade launcher
-No camera to get damage mods
-Relatively few/weak plasmids

Of course with infinite respawns it's not that big a deal, but in some ways I thought they could have balanced it a bit better (maybe having weaker big daddies at the start of the game, and stronger at the end).

So is it best to ignore them (even though the game warns about missing the girls on each level) until later?

Or kill them and respawning 16 times inbetween? :p

is it odd that i got up to about 1/2 way through the game without dying?

I'm not sure, I'm only one of many people who play the game.

Just seems weird to me that I'm throwing everything at them, ducking behind objects and I just can't take them out.

as I said, I think I just need to use the wrench for the entire first level.

I thought they were stronger near the end anyway, as they get a gun :)

Recently completed the game. I used a combination of different methods. When they were 'easier' to kill u used shock/freeze + shotty. Other times I used to back pedal hurtling grenades at them. Then the most effective way is the electric gel! You just need to stand there with your finger on shoot until he dies. :)

Go to ttlg.com and download the reblance/challenge mod. Then see some real difficulty with the Big Daddies :)

I'd avoid going the infinite-respawn route really. It spoils an otherwise great game. Perhaps even play through it with the vita chambers turned off.

Go and play something else, that's what I ended up doing. It just stopped being a game when I realised you were basically immortal and unkillable.

Yeah. As a game Bioshock is terrible IMO :/

That alone makes it a complete joke.

???

They are easy to kill - just use one of the many techniques outlined above - what I like is the fact that you can choose how you want to do it. You can be sneaky and use trap bolts - clever with the barrels/mine - or just bludgeon them to death. Or a combination - set splicers on him, trap him, then run him into a pre-positioned mine. Getting them to fight each other has got to be the most satisfying though.

They are far from immortal - even on the harder levels - and just because the game temporarily outfoxes you shouldn't mean you drop your toys and brand it lame - relish the challenge, dust yourself off and try something different - grow with the challenge for a change (or go play a console game and keep mashing the pad if that's your thing ;))

I will always be a quicksave man and very seldom relied on the respawn chambers - just seems wrong to me - too many years of f5 I guess :D

I just dodged out of they're way...No need to keep respawning...Chrikey :p

I think the respawn chambers were a bit weird to be honest....

hence why I've turned them off this time around.

They're a throwback to Biochock's spiritual predecessor, System Shock 2. I used quicksave instead of dying for both games.

I remember having a lot of fun killin the Big Daddies in as many different ways as possible. Definitely max out your increased damage against them through research asap.

I didn't actually see an option to turn off the vita chambers, but about 3 deaths in I decided not to play it that way. If I died I load my last save game.

I'm on my second run of the game now, this time on Hard, and my only complaint is that the Big Daddies are still so easy to kill. When you get the chemical thrower you just walk up to them and spray the electric gel and wait for them to fall over. Other than the game being too easy, even without the chambers, I've no complaints. Absolutely brilliant stuff. I love the idea of the mines on the barrel, I wish I had thought of that.

They really should have made it so the big daddy's health replenishes if you die, or something. It really took a lot of tension out of the game knowing that I could just twang them with my wrench to save ammo, then when I die, come running back and continue where I left off.

Serious gameplay flaw if you ask me.

Now go back and actually read what I said before you insult me again please.

Yeah, the disable vita chambers option occurs in the latest patch I think.

I love the game, it's cool, i think thing's could have been better...Such as the physics used, as they're damn right awful sometimes, what with random props bouncing over the place like rubber balls.

I do find the begining a bit weird though, how he just starts using the EVE hypos without even thinking about the causes etc.
