P5N32-SLI PREMIUM ok for crossfire?

My mate is happy to get 2x4870's over the one GTX 280. but it looks like his motherboard is an 'SLI' one. Also i don't know how the lane speed would change ect. So will it work with crossfire and will the two PCI-e slots run fast enough?

A 4870x2 would work fine, as it doesn't require a crossfire capable motherboard.
