Kinda prefer Nvidia cards

My instinct is to go for a 8800GTS

Any other suggestions before i buy one?

Cheers

Will be buying this as well Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

stay away from nvidia :) for the performance of the new 48 series, you wont get better performance for your money :)

Lol at instinct. Good luck with that one.

Seriously, go for the 4850 or 4870 (if you can stretch it). I've just upgraded from an 8800 GTS 512mb, and the performance boost imo was quite sizeable.

Fork extra for 260 if Nvidia, go for the 4850 or 4870 if you do not actually need Nvidia features but want the best card for the price.

If your really determined to stick with nVidia

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Get one of those and find a copy of the 177.39 or newer beta drivers...

You'd be much better off forking out the extra for a GTX260 tho if your going to stick with nVidia imo.

Except come the 16th July (or earlier) they are going to £117 so mad to buy one today for that price.

The 9800GTX+ will be the price of the current 9800GTX so if wanting Nvidia either of those will be a valid choice IMO.

im caught in this price bracket too for a new gfx card upgrade. planning on getting the 9800gtx, although its slower than the 48 series the nvidia card has working simple to use game specific profiles. and for that feature alone i dont mind paying the premium in price for a 9800gtx over a 4850.

now just need to wait for the price drop on them, and if the gtx+ comes in at under 150 then thats the card i will go for.

unless by some miracle ati manage to sort out a method like nvidias for game specific profiles then it will sway me over to the 4850.

the 9800GTX and GTX+ with the newer beta drivers seem to get a significant boost - the final WHQL version might even push it moderatly above the 4850.

not too faffed with performance, both cards cant run crysis properly so not missing out much between the 2.
but the main feature i need is the custom profiles, since the card will be going into the media pc and all kids and family use that pc so when they play games i dont want them to be faffing with driver settings (not that they know how to) to get the game to look better.

cant live without custom profiles so next card has to be nvidia for me.

I think that at the new prices, the 9800GTX and 9800GTX+ are competitive.

9800GTX for £117 which is the same as the 4850 and is on a par with it

And the 9800GTX+ for £137 which will be faster than a 4850 but slower than the £175 4870 gives consumers real choice in the mid range graphics arena.

And the 9800GTX+ might be a great overclocker especially under water looking at what me 8800GTS G92 got to.

Yep, looks like it's best to wait for the 9800GTX+ to hit the market.

If you can't wait 4850 is the card to get.

Phew...dam glad I posted, seems I have been away from things too long, didnt even bother looking at prices of the ATI cards.

Now its a dilemma, gonna check out the afore mention cards..cheers.
