You hardly do 10k a year in your boat nor are you skint if you have a boat.

lies :P i have a boat and skint! (ok its a very small sailing dingy but still my boat!)

Ye fuel costs on them cruisers must be crazy, watched the off-shore racing boats coming into edinburgh and was thinking how bad it must be, but then laughed at the irony of one of them being sponsored by carbon-footprint reduction!

Most larger boats are diesel, certainly all the boats in my family are. Marine diesel is a lot cheaper.

Not if its an older beast, lot of them from before about 95 are big old 200hp + petrol engines. Very Very thirsty indeed, boating is a very expensive hobby, if you despise paying for petrol for your car think of these guys :P

Maybe start a new thread entitled 'look at my parents boats' ;) How many boats does you family have out of curiosity?

By family i mean whole family not immediate, including uncles, grandparents etc. Probably 6-7 what i would call "proper" yachts. Why?

SB118, whats this about marine diesel?

Only thing i can find offhand is this. Also read a yatching mag from 2007 while i was in hospital waiting for my op that it had been put back two years, so i think it's happening this coming december.

lol marine diesel isn't that cheap, not compared to how cheap it was a few years ago, 3 years ago it was like 30p a litre its well over £1.15 where I am now!
What with the tax they are going to start putting it on it for plessure use!

Then you are being ripped off, current price for gas oil is around 70ppl even in small quantities

SB118, thanks for the link. New install on this machine so need to get acrobat and stuff sorted first!

I don't actually own a boat my friends dad does but we use it, and have to fill it up >.<
Wouldn't mind owning a boat when I'm older but the south is so expensive for boat owners :(

Where i live, petrol is £1.51 a litre

I've just worked out my boat does around 2 mpg.

:(
My last boat (Single Petrol V8 260hp mercruiser ) use to burn a fair bit of fuel as well

about 22 gallons an hour at 40kts (full throttle)
about 12 gallons an hour cruising speed 30kts

(Glad i sold it a few years ago now)

and i'm certainly not rich - i don't have a car, and the boat cost about the same as a cheap second hand motor!!!!
