As the title suggests im keen to learn a bit more about these cars, (I seem to remember someone on here had one) im struggling over whether I want to get an audi s4 (around 99) or a galant vr4 (98/99) I know a bit about the S4 but the galant really caught my eye, they both have 2.7 litre v6 twin turbo engines producing about the same power (270/280 respectively) but just looking for some comments from people who may have owned or driven these, ideally I would like something like an elise but for some reason the insurance is over 2k more than the galant and I couldnt stomach paying £4,000 for insurance, any advice or comments welcome :) thanks

hmm if you wanted an elise then you surely wont want a galant? TOTALLY different cars, one is a potent saloon/estate the other is a road going track car with no luxuries...

what about an mr2 turbo? suppose that's as similar to an elise as you're going to get without having to pay stupid insurance

They are deffo available with a 5 speed manual. Tbh I would be looking at the Legnum, i think they look a lot better than the saloon, especially in white with blacked out windows, like this...

To tom, I'm pretty fond of luxo barges really and done so much like the idea of a small car but as its a weekend car only it made me begin to look at smaller track type cars as well as looking at the normal type of car I would go for (big car lots of space but fairly quick as well), at clarkey I have seen the legnum but really prefer the saloon, for some reason I dont so much like the estate version, but they are both the same car ? what are they like to drive being 4wd ? are the turbos a possible issue as with the S4 and how quick are they really, (assuming you have one looking at your picture!)

*also tom the Mr2 even the turbo versions aren't really that quick in stock form as far as I know (6.5 to 60? from memory)

are they really that quick ? didnt realise that! I just went off a couple of things i read, would it not be difficult to get hold of one that hasnt been ragged/riced up?

yea they are stonkingly quick for the money, and there are a fair few about and i imagine it shouldnt be too hard if you're willing to spend the money? im not the best person to talk about them though, others on here know far far more

Stock they're about 230bhp though in an 1100 or so kg car?

wow may have to look down that route then, because I know they do a n/a version which is only 7 seconds so I just assumed it wouldnt be too much quicker, ill have a look on ebay then I suppose, (newer ones I assume would be that powerful not the older?)

rev 3 onwards iirc

Mr2 turbo's are very quick cars make no mistake, especially with a boost increase.

As for the Mitsi's, I don't own one that pic I just ripped from PH, anyway I don't know too much about them either, but yes the Galant and Legnum are essentially the same.

2 Vr4's :)

They are either 5 speed manual or 5 speed tiptronic.

All 4x4 with evo running gear including AYC.

Quite heavy at around 1460kg to 1510kg ish, but the 2.5 quad cam twin turbo is a cracking engine. It got between 260 and 280bhp as standard but the torque is amazing. I had full torque at 1500rpm on my second one with something like 600nm of torque.

Downsides are fuel costs, they aint that bad, but not great either and super only.

I seriously miss my old vr4, ive had various cars since and nothing compares. They look great, drive so damn well, and the engine is perfect.

Legnums are cheaper... but obviously a touch heavier. Great car the legnum i had, it was a manual with about 350bhp, but the saloon just felt right to me, more stylish imo

It was a tiptronic with about 320ish
