after much discussion i have decided im going to try and make the jump from my amd set up to an intel setup
i want to use all i have in my current system bar mobo and chip obviously
but i need some help in choosing a mobo and chip as my knowledge is that of a small chimp.
my currrent spec is as follows
nzxt lexa blackine case
asus m2n sli mobo
amd 6000 x2
thermaltake blue orb fan
ocz reaper 2 gig 2x1 gig sticks ddr2
8800gts 512
creative xfi gamer
network card
additional media card reader
250 gb hd
1 dvd and 1 dvd writer

can someone advise me please on a half decent mobo and intel processor that isnt going to break the bank which is going to accomodate all my current bits.
the system is used for gamming only.
reason for this change is due to me wanting to possibly upgrade the 8800gts to one of the new nvidia 260 or 280 cards, but many people in the graphics card section here advised that the 6000 x 2 may cause a bottle neck etc etc
if some one could please help me out here it would be very very much appreciated
cheers :)

get a P35 chipset motherboard, with any CPU that fits your budget.
if you can afford it get a replacement for the stock intel cooler and you should be good to go after a full operating system re-install.

But although cheap, a p35 board is only pci-e 1.1 16x and may will limit you in future.

I would suggest a p45 board instead as that has pci-e 2.0 slots.

If you get the Asus one with wifi built in you can ditch your network card.

For games, if on a budget the e7200 is a good buy, if not the e8500 is the one to go for.

Everything else will fit including your memory so you are only looking at a cpu/mobo swap.

Bah, if you want to upgrade your graphics card do it, then make a decision if it is bottlenecked later. £200+ to go from a 3 Ghz X2 to a 3 Ghz Core 2 Dual?...mmmm...

hi there again, thought i would revisit my thread and just double check before i press the buy button, that all my current stuff in my computer will work prefectly well with me mobo and c2d
stuff is
nzxt lexa blackine case
Hiper Type-M SLI/Crossfire Ready 580 Watt Power Supply

thermaltake blue orb II fan
ocz reaper 2 gig 2x1 gig sticks ddr2
8800gts 512
creative xfi gamer
network card
additional media card reader
250 gb hd
1 dvd and 1 dvd writer

going into
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 with a E8500
just need to doubly check so if someone could just put my mind at rest it would be a great help
cheers

i went from an asrock [the suck]
and a 4800

to whats in my sig now

it is brilliant

but i got my E6300 off the MM here for £25 and overclocked it to 3GHz

so the upgrade cost me £125

bargain
