Convicted of Dangerous Cycling...

She might not of seen him.

Its like someone in a car ploughing into a pedestrian crossing the road, Its a natural reaction to stop so him actually traveling at speed to pass pedestrians is shocking, If I ever go on the path I will slow down to walking pace or get off my bike to past people, if its a built up area I don't even ride on the path.

Seems he is on off these people that thinks they are in the right, lets hope one day a car will plough into him and the driver shout "I am not stopping, you better move"

Unbelievable decision. If the facts are as reported I'm at a loss to see when he was so lightly punished.

You telling me you never cross the road?

They were not crossing the road, they were walking down it. When i do cross the road i look both ways and make sure nothing is coming...
Had they been crossing the road, and done as iI and 99% of the country do the girl would be alive today. The same applies for her walking along the road.

Because, I was basing my argument around the fact that she was walking in the road where there was a pavement available!

He still had plenty of time to see that she was a hazard and take appropriate action. Instead he chose to completely ignore any risk. All he had to do was slow down but he chose not to and now a young girl is dead. He owed her a duty of care and he deliberately ignored it.

This is where i get confused then with your arguement, he was on the pavement, she was stepping onto pavement, so how was she in the wrong again?

I thought they were crossing the road myself so my apologise if i got that wrong, i didnt realise they were walking slightly on it, but i didnt see where it said that, could you point it out please?

What are the facts?

a) He coud have been riding on the road, girl was standing in the road in the way
b) She was walking on a cycle path and refused to move to the ped lane
c) He was riding in the ped lane

I've experienced people with a) and b) and they expect you to stop. Sorry if you walk out in front of me 20 yards distance and I'm doing 35 mph I cannot stop.

Where is that from badbob i didnt see the facts, not being funny just would like to see where you get the info from so i can see myself please as i would like to know if this guy really isnt to blame (which i think he is at the moment).

Except that he was doing about half that and he had time to tell her to move because he wasn't going to break.

The one thing we don't know is what the other traffic volume was and whether he could, if he was on the road, have manouvered further into the road to go around her.

Yeah if fast moving overtaking cars were on the right I wouldn't swerve right to avoid her. Swerving left to mount the pavement isn't possible (not a MTB) Although I'd stop.

Blue Cypher. I was just giving possible situations, seems to be a lot of false details ie "mad cyclist charges group of girls with swords mounted on bicycle" or some other head line grabbing title.

If she was drunk it's half her fault for walking on the road, perhaps in a group so stumbling about unaware walking on the road?

Clearly not seeing as he managed to hit and kill someone

It was a freak occourance. I would wager a lot of money on the fact that % wise cycle-ped accidents are less lethal that car-ped accidents!!

My initial argument was based around the girl being in the road, which it seems she was, the cyclist cycling along the road which is seems he was (17mph on the pavement is crazy), and her making a dash infront of the cyclist just before he was due to pass her, resulting in him hitting her.

This to me is the most likely form of the accident.

Is there any CCTV footage? Any other witnesses? Or did she jump out in front of a cyclist, get knocked down then her mates made it up?

Given that he's be convicted of dangerous cycling I think we can establish that it wasn't made up and he must take some of the blame at least.

The only way I could see his actions being remotely justifiable is if he was worried that the group of girls were going to rob him of his bike or beat him up if he stopped or if he had a lorry roaring along a few yards behind him. No other reason not to slow down that I can think of except for mechanical issues.

I've also witnessed car drivers that go for the horn when someone walks in front of them before touching the brakes which I suppose is a similar thing except the speed involved is likely to be greater.
