Vancouver - stuff to do?

Vancouver is a great place - it is a modern cosmopolitan city. If the weather is good hire a bike and cycle around the harbour path. If that is not your bag then get down to Granville Island, fab market, nice bars with some great microbrewery bear.

Or get a car and explore some of the amazing free space around the city. We went over to Vancouver Island and spent a couple of days in Tofino wandering around temperate rainforest and some amazing beaches.

If I ever emigrated anywhere it would be Vancouver - love the place.

Getting VERY tempting the way this country is going! + I have some relatives out there which I suspect would help me get a foot through the immigration door!

i'm going to vancouver tomorrow, ultimate destination Victoria (Vancouver Island).

the Island has some fantastically beautifull scenery, mountains & somesuch.

My god this thread brings back some memories for me. I went on Victoria and Vancouver a few years ago with a group of friends. I'd love to go back there.... in fact as had been said if I had emigrate anywhere it'd be there!!!

Check out The mountain at the back of the city (is it Grouse Mountain?), Capilano Suspension bridge is fantastic as has been said, Vancouver Aquarium is great, stanley park is lovely (though apparently a place to avoid at night as is frequented by unsavoury customers...)

On the whole a lovely city, and amazinginly fresh air, felt wonderful stepping out of the airport into the type of air you imagine when you see those huge sweeping views with mountains, trees and lakes!!!

Oh and if you get a chance, take a ride up the highway towards whistler, there are some truely amazing views at the side of the road, which will take your breath away!!! (just watch out for bears!!!)

hey i totally agree with what everyone else in this thread has said

i went to vancouver last summer and i am going back again this summer. i am seriously considering emigrating there.

anyway, things that we did last summer were:

-capilano suspension bridge
-tour bus around downtown
-day trip to Victoria on Vancouver Island
-Granville Island
-overnight stay in Whistler (its a couple hours bus ride to the village and even though its well known for the winter it is very busy in the summer as well due to mountain biking)
-up Grousse mountain (saw the lumberjack show)
-weekend trip down to Seattle (try include a baseball/american football game)
-went to a BC Lions game (Vancouvers' Canadian Football Team)
-cycle round Stanley Park + visit to Aquarium

thats all i can think of so far ill update more later if i remember anything, i was there for a month btw staying on the North Shore with a friend.message me if you want more info

They play cricket over there?!?

In my (albeit limited) experience British Columbia is quite British - expect no litter or chavs. Certainly Victoria was almost like being in the UK - I even had Fish and Chips in the Elephant and Castle and they have red double decker buses. This may have been specific for the tourists though...

I am sure there was cricket pitch in Stanley Park as a keen club cricketer I looked out for ut,

Visit the Museum of Anthropology, in the grounds of the University of BC! It's great for learning about the history of the area. Really adds meaning when you walk down places like Long Beach or see the totem poles dotted around the towns and cities.

There's an amazing fireworks display (HSBC Celebration of Light) on 23rd, 26th, 30th July and 2nd August if you're there then. Pretty hard to miss but best watched from one of the beaches over looking downtown.

is that in Vancouver itself?
