Whats that current cover/remix of Michael Jackson's "Beat It"?

It's a disgrace is what it is.

Some songs just shouldn't be covered and Beat It is one of them, it was right the first time.

none of MJ's songs should be unless its on his own album like 25th anniversary we akon n that :)

mind you 7-8 years ago alien ant farm did smooth criminal what was pretty good ,not as good as the original obviously

A cover isnt supposed to superceed the original, its just a different way of doing the song

My sister has that attitude, wont stand for ANY covers or remixes

Im not kissing fallout boy's ass or anything, i dont even like them, i just think this track is an interesting twist/take on the original. Its not better

Well if it isn't going to be better or at least equal (and different) then what is the point? I've not said that no covers should ever be done, some do it differently and at least as well as the original (cf Johnny Cash - Hurt, Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb, Embrace - How Come, Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal etc) but the vast majority are simply poor quality imitations that owe more to greed than any rightful chance of doing something different and good.

I bet they murder the EVH guitar solo.. If they even bother to do one anyway

Yup. It would have been good in one of two ways - being identical to EVH's, or being completely different and avoiding comparison completely. Unfortunately it falls between two stools - it's similar, but in no way a patch on the original solo.

It's such an awful attempt of a solo, it makes me shudder when I hear it.

guitar solos are 80s

Oh I dunno, I think they have their place. Unfortunately nobody - at least from mainstream bands - seems to know how to solo any more. Can you name a modern guitarist who can string together a solo as well as Gilmour or Knopfler?
(That's not a rhetorical question btw - post away if you can name someone :) )

they should not exist unless its a pub band

omg!

Guitar solos can make a song that's great into something that's amazing, sometimes I listen to a song just for the solo. Even new metal bands are creating some awesome sounding stuff.

I never used to appreciate solos though, I think playing guitar opened my ears or something.

OT: The solo in the cover is a fail btw.

My favourite guitar solo writers from new bands, none of them are like piddly widdly dragonforce gash, just well thought out musical awesomeness.

Rob Arnold - Chimaira
John Kempainen - The Black Dahlia Murder
Steve Nixon - Mendeed
Oli Herbert - All That Remains

I like Mark Tremonti's solos (Alter Bridge).

I know technically he may not be on par with the "greats", but hey. He tears stuff up as far as I'm concerned.
