New watch for me.

I love my Omegas but I do love wearing my Breitling Colt, the creamy white face is very distinctive and stands out well.

I like it...NICE BUY. I have a Tissot which has a very similar look. It was a bit cheaper than yours...but still a nice watch.

I'm not a fan, it looks like a cheap Seiko. Having inspected a few, I wasn't impressed with the quality of Breitlings either.

You are joking aren't you? What's wrong with the quality of Breitling watches?

I have a couple, and can't fault the quality at all.

They fall behind the quality of those of similar or even lower value. My Fortis which cost less than half the price is far better put together with more attention to detail.

Breitling may have been a market leader in quality at one time but their recent output leaves a lot to be desired. I was looking at buying a Navitimer or an Emergency at one time and the details were quite shoddy. The faces had inconsistencies, the numbers and figures on the dial were far from perfect and the overall watches just looked unfinished.

Their designs in general also look quite cheap and samey. They don't exude quality. If I paid a four figure sum for one I would be thoroughly disappointed. I'd rather spend half of the money on a superior watch.

I've never seen any inconsistencies on any Breitling watchfaces myself (and I've seen a 'few'), and as for quality, every single Breitling mechanism is COSC certified including the quartz ones (the only watch company in the World to do this), and each watch takes approximately 11 months to make.

I would imagine that if there are any problems with the cosmetics then they would be spotted during this time. The watch faces are also put together by hand, so that's another opportunity to spot any potential problems.

Just had a look at the Fortis site, and they look like your pretty standard watches, nothing particularly distinctive about them from what I can see, but each to their own I guess. Factory started in 1912? Youngsters :p

I'm still after a Bremont though. I may actually even get around to buying one someday :D

I have had both a Fortis, B42 chrono and 2 Breitings a Superocean and a Chrono Avenger the quailty of the Breitlings was superior, the crown on the fortis felt like it was about to fall off every time i used it

Think there might have been something wrong with your Fortis as I had that exact watch and the quality was impecable. Absolutely no chance of the crown falling off... Never owned a Brietling, or really seen one up close so no idea on how they compare.

It is a known issue on the b42s it is due to the diameter of the crown and the torques you can put into it when screwing down

Well,

I went to Goldsmiths today just to have a gander and to try one on and it looks and feels far superior in terms of quality, weight and looks.

Rotty it's a 42mm, not the largest but not the smallest either, it sits damn well on my wrist.
For a £250 upgrade it's well worth it :D
As for all the posts putting the watch down, i like it - i bought it but i welcome everyones point of view.

Fullspizz, you know i've wanted one for years, even though i was very happy with the Omega - i fancied a change from the dark face and in the flesh - the white face looks sooo classy.

I'm happy anyway :D

Fixed that for you.

I quite like it but not enough to buy it. It's hard to tell how a watch really looks unless it's on your wrist though so it maybe looks a lot better IRL.

Here's one sat on the wrist (not mine yet though ;))

Haha, great post.

I like the watch a lot.

Ahh I can see how my post may have been misinterpreted, Im honestly not against expensive timepieces, they are as valid a way to spend you £ on as computer parts, cars etc etc. My post was referring to the blinged up watch I posted. Apologies if I have offended anyone, I really disagree with the anti-watch people who pervade these threads.

i thought the only reason to buy watches like this were for nautical reasons, failing that you just like to show off. If it makes you happy then thats the main thing. Personally i'd put the money into something else...
We could start a new thread "best ways to waste a grand".
