Three Warhammer Online Announcements

If they were that scared of WoW they would have never started a new mmo in the first place :) . Less capitals sounds like a more focused gameplay experianced for new players on launch and the added time bonus that allows for testing in the various betas. I'd rather less and more polished classes than a bigger but flawed range.

The game is all about RvR anyways, if that is fun then the game will have a strong following. Its not trying or will it succed in toppling WoW.

My sentiments exactly. this game is gonna rock regardless. Whats the point of having classes no one wants to play?

Dont think it really matters if warhammer kills wow or not, it only needs a small poor of players to be a success, couple hundred thousand and im sure they will be happy, but they certainly deserve mass success, if only because of paul, that guy is a legend, met him last year at gamesday.

2 Cities means that people will be more focussed on fighting over a specific area rather than spread out of 6 area's, reduction in classes is a shame but I can understand the need to have working fun classes over lots of broken boring ones.

Still classes that will be available are all a tonne of fun to play and RvR in War WILL redefine the genre.

Also, if this was a new MMOFPS, players would be concerned with anti-cheat methods as war is an rpg its kinda been forgotten about. But with the game mainly focused on PvP gameplay there will be a lot of players looking at cheating, more so than in a normal PvE. So it makes sence that Mythic are looking at anti-cheat and even more so to outsouce it to one the biggest anti-cheat devs out there.

Sure PB will not catch all the hackers but it will catch a fair amount of them, its also not as hard to get working on your PC as a lot of people would have you believe.

Hi veg btw :)

Alright Prank mate!

I agree about PB, I've never had any problems with it and whilst they will never stop everyone from cheating, PB does and will catch people out. PB is better than nothing!

Now, whether to get one of these headstart kits or not....

The Pre-Order box for the Collector's Edition which includes codes for guaranteed open beta access, early access to the game and exclusive in-game items will probably be sold out everywhere now. You could try a few HMV's but other than that I don't think there is anywhere else that is offering the Collector's Edition with the pre-order box. Play.com have stopped taking pre-orders for it now I think. I got mine at the beginning of last month and they had quite a few pre-order boxes left so I got mine while I still could.

I like the summer too much these days to really try and get into the beta, i usually get to like a class and it ends up competely different on release anyways :p . With the game looking like it will be out sometime in Sept, are you hooked up with a guild from your daoc days, Mir ?

Gutted they've removed 4 classes but still, I'll be getting the Collectors edition no matter what. No way am I returning to WoW, I'd rather return to the now sucky SWG than go back to that :p

Aye, I'm gonna be playing with The Ministry. Still playing DAoC as it goes!
What about you?

After looking at the changes logically I think the axed classes and cities will be better for the game in the long run. They will be developing those 4 classes and 4 cities so that when they are implemented later on they will be balanced and work properly rather than throw them in there straight away an unbalanced classes. I am now looking forward to WAR again, I think I just jumped the gun a bit when I first read the news like everyone else on the Warhammer Alliance Forums lol. I'll still probably be getting the Collector's Edition and can't wait for the open beta to actually test out the game.

I really don't like punkbuster as the processes running at startup then restarting randomly after being closed down used to annoy me a bit when I had cod4 installed, fair enough when I'm playing cod but when I'm not I don't see why they should be running.

I've been in the beta for a while now and the other points don't seem that bad, nice to see them trying to make a limited but polished initial launch rather than an overstretched and unfinished one.

Im kinda not up on fps type multiplayer stuff but isnt that what PB is used on? Also I might be wrong but isn't there issues with false positives all the time with it? Like I said I don't know much about it as I mostly play MMO's and none that I have played used PB that I know of but I have heard stories of people using programs like...wasn't riva tuner one of them that could cause a false positive?

Im kinda rambling but that stuck in my mind. I just wouldn't wanna get popped for cheating if I wasn't cheating on a MMO that ya not only pay for the box but a monthly charge is all I guess. I also use riva tuner for fan profiles and overclocking heh.

On the punkbuster issue, they do have this to say

3) It's addition to our game is highly conditional. We will be spending a lot of time during the beta test with Punkbuster enabled and we'll see how it goes. If it doesn't work as advertised or it harms the RvR experience of the player, it will be removed.

6) Are we going to go absolutely nuts when it comes to using PB and ban like crazy? Of course not. We are going to implement and enforce it carefully as again, it is just one of our tools.

There was a post by mythic stating that pb cannot actually "kick" anyone, all it does is report the suspicious activity to a GM etc who then has to deal with it.

It sounds like PB in Warhammer is going to work the same way as they were looking at using it in UO (before the misinformation got so many of the less techy players really worried that it was going to end up sending all their details to anyone who asked, and kick them for using msn, ICQ, voice comms and keyboard/mouse drivers*...).

I can see why they would go for it over a proprietary anti-cheat system, not least because the hard work of making it is already done, it's relatively proven and it's modular (they can add it to the client with relative easy, updated it easily etc without needing to patch and fully test a new client build every time they update the anti cheat system).

As long as PB works, and is simply used to alert GM's to monitor players I'm more than happy for it to be used, especially as UO has long suffered from the lack of any automated anti-cheat measures on the client (I suspect cheating in UO is pandemic, certainly amongst the rares vendors - as shown when in one purge dozens of the biggest vendor houses were destroyed by gm's).

*I've got a few suspicions about some of the more vocal opponents to it's introduction into UO, who spent a lot of time and effort denouncing it repeatedly and twisting the T&C of PB, what the reps said, and what is technically possible...(several of them ran vendors with unusually large numbers of [very] rare items...there is something fishy about a vendor that is always stocked with half a dozen or more of an item that statistically should only spawn about once a year, and wears out fast).

This to me seems like.

1. We are running scared of WoW
2. We are running scared of WoW
3. We are running scared of WoW

And I guess many others will believe the same.

I wouldn't say running scared but I'd say they're worried about getting things wrong at launch which as we've seen recently can really, really hurt an MMO.

This game needs to be very polished when it goes live.
