New 4800 coolers from arctic cooling

Considering your already watercooling, surprised you haven't got 2 blocks for the cards Marcsey. That would allow better airflow around the cards just by using your 120mm mounted above.

EK have their 48x0 blocks out now but would be pricey for two of them. Non-FC blocks would obviously be cheaper but you'd still need some cooling on the mem I think/

Just remember, the airflow, even if it feels quite brisk, out the back of a rear exhausting type of gpu heatsink is actually very very slow compared to the speed a 120mm fan will push air through something like the S1 sink. THe longer the air is in contact with the heatsink the more heat it picks up, and the worse it cools. The stock sinks are actually quite long and very slow, while an S1 is wide but the airflow direction it actually moves only a cm or so, at a ridiculously faster pace so the air actually heats up an incredibly small amount so will barely effect the temp of the air in a case at all. Also with any decent case from the past 4 years with 120mm slow/high cfm fans front and rear the case has new air in it every few seconds. Basically exhausting the air makes incredibly little difference to case temps. The hot air out the back is just relatively hot, due to heat in a very low amount of air.

Its really irritating that ATi make the shroud so difficult to remove from the sink, as frankly any half decent fan blowing into the sink with the shroud off would also do 10x as good a job as the stock fan/shroud combo.

nice any info on how to err helli mod:D

pick up dremel (my preference) or hacksaw, cut into the 4 supports ....= 1 heli fan :)

mine is secured with super glue onto the S1 with some cotton around the supports in case the glue should fail (extremely unlikely)

i don't just need 2 blocks however, would also need a PA120.2 or similar plus another pump and res. adding these 2 cards to the q6600+NB currently on my PA120.3 is too much.

considering the clocks on air i can't really justify the cost tbh even though it would obviously be more beneficial - although it wouldn't be any quieter either ;)

however knowing me i'll be bored in a few weeks and decide to do it just for the sake of it :o

Can't see why you would. I;m cooling my q6600, nb, and GTS g92 on one loop with a swiftech double rad.

GTS doesn't go above 43C and cpu never above 65C (not the best cpu water block or radiator)

Adding my GTS to the loop added 1-2 degrees. I can't really see your pa120.3 struggling with the two ati cards on the loop. You might lose one degree on your cpu but is that going to make a difference enough to justify a 2nd loop?

i could live with upto 5c on the quad no problem i guess but that's the limit, i like to hit it @ 4ghz when gaming sometimes and i need more volts for that which puts me in the high 50's/low 60's loading.

just a quick question on the Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev2 Passive VGA Cooler do you have the fan blowing air onto the card or drawing the air away from it and would a 120mm artic cooling fan do cheers

Blow air onto the card so it cools all the ram sinks and and mosfets.

So which is better the S1 or S2? I've got a silent 92mm fan lying around so thinking of getting one.

Right installed the S1 and a silent 92mm (literally silent as it is barely moving at 900rpm lol).

Idle temps in Vista have dropped from ~80c to ~46c. Going to fiddle with BIOS to up the speed a bit before testing.

i use a 'heli mod' 120mm on my top S1 and another 120mm blowing from the side onto both cards VRM area - holds to 50c under load with 1.3v 800/1050

considering the confined spaces and clocks/volts the temps are very nice for 2 cards under air - certainly a lot better than the turbo module would achieve.

At least this confirms to me that you can use these coolers in a Xfire configuration, gives me a bit of choice now.:)

was going to put one of these on but my temps are in the low 40s idle and never go above 60 when gaming ive got it clocked to 780 and 1050 so do you think i should go for the
Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev. 2 VGA Cooler, suppose it will help it clock better,p.s ive got my fan running at 37%,what do you think

duke did you up the fan speed and if so did it drop temps anymore m8 cheers
