Hi there

OK car last dynoed at 532BHP on Powerstation's dyno which according to what I should be at is about 15-20BHP over, as the guys in the US say my car should be pushing 460RWHP region...

My current mods and state of tune is:-
3V 4.6l Modular V8
Saleen 2.3l Supercharger
3.60 Pulley (7.5psi)
C&L CAI with racer tube
39lb injectors
F150 90mm MAF
Mass air harness
Autolite Colder range spark plugs
Vaccum line
GT500 fuel system
Bassani Long Tube Headers
Bassani X-Pipe
Bassani Race CATS
Saleen Catback system

The car has been tuned via email and datalogging and is running a relatively conservative tune but based on Octane 93 fuel which is RON 97.5 or higher. The car outputting 532BHP and 510lb/ft. The car has now covered 22,000 miles in this state of tune and has not missed a beat.

So I have been speaking to JDM who are basically regarded as the best tuner in the US, even Saleen take cars too them for improvements as JDM basically are the guru's of tuning.
Speaking with other guys and JDM it seems I can go to a considerably lower sized pulley and hassle free. They themselves and they also have customers running the 3.00 pulley on the stock engine which is basically 14psi of boost. They have cars running this level of boost and have done so for 18 months plus and covered well over 50,000 miles with no issues at all and no signs of wear. JDM say its in the tune which I 110% agree with along with pairing the engine with the correct injectors, spark plugs, intake, maf and fuel pumps etc. JDM's own car and a couple of their customers run 2.85 pulley which is circa 650BHP region on race tunes and are pulling 10s quarter miles, again on stock engine with terminal speeds in the 130mph region.

I am considering going with the following:-

3.20 Pulley (11.5psi) - So still well within safety limits
Extreme Saleen 2008 Cold Air Induction Kit (Very new and looks ace)
60lb injectors
V10 waterpump pulley
Thump_rr tensioner
JDM Email tune

The above will give me a good 500-520ish at the wheels. Which will be close to 600 horses at the flywheel.

The cost to get me here for all the above is looking at around $1400 shipped.

i would say not £700+ is a lot to pay for bragging rights

532bhp i am sure is enough for the road and the track in any regular car imho

Now you see if i was told about the 2.85 pully being run without issue I would have to go for that, but then I am greedy ;)

Is it really only 3 valves per cylinder?

Hi there

Yes m8!

The engine design is very basic, but Ford have won a lot of rewards or it comes highly ranked. Fact you can double its output to 600BHP and still pull 25MPG is rather impressive. :)

Hi there

Bragging rights?

I want more BHP because I want more power, another 50 horsepower at the wheels will be felt and the thought of booting it in 2nd and 3rd is fun as it is, with another 50 horsepower getting to the ground it will be even more fun. :D

Hi there

That is the limit though on stock engine internals and JDM generally recommend no smaller than 3.0, they just use 2.85 for customers who are willing to accept there is a chance, but upto now still no engine with 2.85 have let go that have been tuned by JDM guys. :)

Ah well you best get some new internals to go with your ickle pully then ;)

Hi there

Forged piston, connecting rods etc can be done and is done, people see 700-800BHP then and some bore out too 5.0l, no idea on cost though....

If your going to do something and all that ;)

Seriously though, you did so much work to get her to where she is now why not make this next step another sizable jump?

No offence but I am sure cost isn't an issue and it would be a far more of a rewarding upgrade as you clearly love improving your car.

go for it, but get the 3.0 pulley at least, I know what I would do if I had that monster, get the rods and pistons and have 700+, but I dont and never will but its nice to see someone else has.

who gives a stuff when it means lots of reliable power

I was having this argument with a mate, who is very much a fan of engineering like the Honda VTEC engine, arguing how its much more of an engineering feet and that big american engines are boring because their low tech and achieve low power from high displacements

My counter argument to that is engines are something like breaking a safe. You can use skill and precision and attempt to crack the safe, or alternatively you can just blow the bloody doors off ! :D

Point being the achieve the same aim, so who cares how its achieved :D
