****E3 2008 PC Discussion****

Empire Total War, Far Cry 2 and Mirror's Edge for me, good selection of different gametypes, already played so many RPG's lately, really into Total War currently, Far Cry 2 looks like pure awesomeness and Mirror's Edge could be a fantastic game if done properly :)
 
Wow Mirror's Edge. Not even heard of it. But it looks fantastic and a nice change from a lot of other games :)

Farcry2 I can't see failing to hit the nail on the head for what I want in the game (action + graphics :p)
 
Hmmm only really waiting for Battlefield 3, i would be happy and farcry 2 would be good, not much really else havnt been that interested really.

my ps3 version has been unused for months cant stand the frame rate

Red alert 3 ah completely forgot, even though they fubar-ed the resource system, I must say the rest of the vid looked okay, looking forward to more info.

Seconded but about the ps3 bit, you're too spoilt with the pc, 25 ish FPS REALLY is playable, just a year ago I played at that framerate as I preferred eye candy above fps, the high 20's are playable :D. With gta IV I couldn't care less for the framerate it's such an awesome game :D.


Edit: ooh, forgot about battlefield heroes and battlefield 3, hoping to hear more about both.

May 7, 2008 - The landmark Doom franchise is getting a new game in the series according to an announcement made today by id Software. The company revealed that Doom 4 is in production and that it is looking to hire talent to work on the game. It's unusual to basically reveal the existence of a game through basically a help-wanted ad; normally publishers like to trumpet the announcement.

Judging by the announcement, id is going to work on Doom 4 itself, which means that the company will develop two major titles simultaneously, something that it has never really done before in its long existence. Work is currently underway on Rage, which is a new franchise for id that blends vehicular combat with first-person action in a sci-fi setting.

It will be interesting to see where id goes with Doom 4. The previous game in the series, Doom 3, was released over four years ago and was basically a re-imagining of the original Doom, considered to be one of the most influential games of all time. Doom 3 was later released in an Xbox version. It's unknown what platforms Doom 4 will appear on, but considering that id is developing Rage for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, it's probable that Doom 4 will appear on those platforms as well.

We contacted id CEO Todd Hollenshead for comment, and he responded that the company just wanted to "leave it at the press announcement for now." So there it is, Doom 4 confirmed, but details to come at a much later date.

Didn't see that coming at all - thought that would be the end of the Doom series. I'm guessing this is a good year or two off though.

Other games - well, I didn't like BF2 at all so i'm not sure what to think about BF3. FarCry 2 looks pretty good, might well have a closer look at that one.

Apart from that I don't see a lot to get excited about. Guess i'll just have to be happy with WoW/C&C3/UT3.

when i first got the game it didn't bother me as i was really into the gameplay but a few hours into it and after the wow factor started to wear off it really started to annoy me

Doom 3 drew mixed reviews at best, the mp was non existant and the sp was a marmite affair. As for multi, archaic meaning done to death and them badly needing to try something new instead of gameplay from over a decade ago.

They tried rehashing quake 3 multi with quake 4 and look how that went, a decent sp but with a multi that died after a few months, they badly need to try something new for a mp component.

Mirrors Edge, Battlefield 3 and Episode 3 please.

Mirrors edge is likely to be all over the show, but throw BF3 and Ep3 into the mix and E3 2008 will win the Lyon award of awesome.

Mega edit: Left 4 Dead, FarCry 2, Crysis Warhead as well please.

Left 4 Dead will definitely be there and hopefully something about Episode 3 seeing as the concept art was released. I hope Valve show some more of The Crossing as well, even if it's just a teaser.
 
Doom 4 sounds interesting... wonder what the storyline will be though? can't really beat D3's one.

Ah E3.. would love to go.. can't believe I turned down free tickets to it few years back :(
 
I have read somewhere that Doom 4 has nothing at all to do with 3 and is actually a direct followup to 1 and 2 - right down to the enemy designs and oh-my-god-hundreds-running-at-me! gameplay. I hope to hell it's true, and the one small actual screenshot I've seen of it actually does look like Hell on Earth remade in glorious 3d.

Can't wait for Left 4 Dead, Far Cry 2, HL2 Ep3, Crysis Warhead, BF3. Will need to check out that Mirrors Edge as well....
