Actualy Ulfhedjinn, watch the video it's very intersting. He talks about quantum computing and that within a few years technology/processing power could be doubling *EVERY DAY* as opposed to every 6-7 months.
I would watch the movie but there's something wrong with your link.

That said, I think it's a bit early to be saying anything about quantum computing. Don't you?

oh yeah and thanks for putting me in your sig.
You're welcome. I am your fanclub and I love you, others are welcome to join me.

They don't need to put anything in their sig, and they can have a free stress test! ;)

The problem with that is manufacturing times and communication.

If you build a processor twice as powerful you cant get it to everyone by the next day + the new software etc etc. Then add in the massive loss of profits by doing such a thing and it's stupidly unlikely.

Acctually theres already a basic one around. Although it's not very good for anything other than highly specialised maths.

I seriously doubt we'll see anything "within the next few years" though, Intel roadmaps show they're sticking with traditional silicon until at least 2014 with die-shrinks of ~10nm every two years.

Well lloyds of london have refused to insure any company against future illness caused by radtion from cell phones/tetra masts/wi-fi ect
they're still narked about asbestos ;)
We don't have cellphones in the UK.
lolwutpearsm8.jpg
noob.
Faraday? 0_o

I thought that 32nm was the limit of silicon's capabilities.
Nah, I will try to find where I read it.

Edit: Found the article here. Intel has plans all the way down to 10nm.

It does say they'll switch from silicon though, mentions carbon nanotubes and stuff.

Wow, my house's like right next to 3 of them.

I'm going to gain superhuman powers soon.

yeah the quantum ones aren't really any good for general purpose computing, just like a cpu isn't good at gfx etc.

They are like those add in cards certain labs use for doing specific styles of calculation.

For general purpose cpu's i think silicon then grapheme/other semi conductors, is more likely.

With that level of power there will have to be a paradigm shift. I think we'll quickly move away from web browsers and M$ operating systems.

According to speaker on the video quantum computers can compute in one hour what would otherwise take a farm of current supercomputers about a trillion years.

There are possible effects from strong electromagnetism though, i reckon it could affect the brain in various ways but i think unless you're really close you should hopefully be ok, it seems people do suffer more from psychological stuff these days, stress, depression etc so who knows, i suspect it all adds up.

yes for very very specific calculations and maths, give it something like what those super computers do in an hour and it will take a trillion years.

But you will still have to have soft ware to convert calculations into something the processor can understand, you will still have to make these processors and the factories to build them you will then have to ship them and teach people how to use them, then you have to wait for people to get good at coding for them so you can get something usable out of them.

Then you still have the problem that this cooperation spent billions on R&D and is going to have to do the same thing tomorrow with virtually no sales/income.

yeah like an MRI...

most people don't go nuts after one though.

or those poor saps who spend hours using NMR machines.

I've never felt anything when next to one.

Recently I was on my mobile for an hour solid to my uncle in the US. The next day I had a really, really bad headache. Worst I've had in years. After that day I gave a lot more consideration about just how safe mobiles are.

can you say coincidence.. But then again with you I can't be surprised. You believe in the most stupid things.

I hate to patronise you, as it's not as funny now, but that could've been anything.

Don't think it was coincidence because I hardly ever have headaches and when I do they are no where near as bad as that one. I'm almost certain the mobile had something to do with it because that day I was on it for an hour and normaly when i'm on the phone it's 30-60 secs max.
