Hello

I need help with water cooling.

I wolud like to cool a Q6600 on a P35-DQ6 F7. 4GB ram

I also want to cool my 2 3870 x2 cards and my be hard drives but i am not sure with them.

Can someone recommend me a kit or if not the parts to build a water system. looking for some expert advice. As i dont have a clue about water system i dont know whats the best to buy.

Cheers

What do you hope to get out of watercooling? What is your budget? Internal/External? Do you mind modding your case?

What do i hope for, well a cooler system for one and possbile a quiter system if I can. internal would be my perfered option thow.

as for budget well dont really have one to be honest.

As for modding a case bring it on something for me to get my hands on.

So what have you got in mind, My case is a soho file server viewty by Antec, but i dont mind looking at another case really. Really dont want a case the size of a small country but smiler sort of size to the one a have got, the antec 1200 looks nice and the lan li ones do look good as well.

what advice to you offer?

I don't know of a kit that will cool that lot properly! Q6600 and 2 3870X2s will put out 400 Watts of heat- and that's assuming the Q6600 is at stock:eek:
Unless you want very high performance (=loud) fans you will probably need 2 radiators, say a 120.2 (or maybe a 160.1) for the CPU and at least a 120.2 (but more likely a 120.3) for the graphics cards. I wouldn't bother with the hard drives TBH

Are you going watercooling for quiet or performance?
:)

quiet really.

hhhhmmm well the q6600 is on a Scythe Mine Rev-B Socket,

so i would need to get 2 radiators one for cpu and the other for graphics. or is it just better to cool the CPU and leave the graphics alone.

really want a quite system, or do i cool the graphics cards and leave the cpu on the scythe. would i get a better benefit doing it like that?

Well you'd save money if you just water cooled the CPU! Full cover water blocks for the graphics cards are not cheap

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-011-EK&groupid=701&catid=193&subcat=1035&name=EK%203870%20X2%20Full%20Cover%20VGA%20Water%20Block

You could watercool the graphics cards with 2 of these per card

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...bcat=1035&name=Swiftech MCW60R VGA Waterblock

plus ram and mosfet heatsinks. That wouldn't save you much money, but they would be transferable to e.g 4870X2;)

ok

so lets say, i want to cool the CPU and one of the 3870 x2 (the other one will be brought at somepoint)

lets say, i brought 2 of the full blocks for the graphics and want to do the CPU. what kit do i need to buy or what parts? sounds like a diy kit

i i buy a cpu block (which one is the best?)
i got the to gpu blocks.

what else do i need to get to complete the system.

would this do the job?

and them replace the VGA block with the 3870 x2

thanks for your advice so far

Afraid not- not enough cooling power. CPU block is not great for quads either.

Anyway here’s a shopping list, but others may have different suggestions and you should really check out the Watercooling Sticky too! Obviously I can’t give you links to components OcUK don’t sell ;)

CPU Block DTek Fuzion Revision 2 (hard to find- only on preorder from OcUK)
GPU blocks – the one’s I said or the XSPC ones which are cheaper. From OcUK

Pump- XSPC DDC 10w Pro Pump/Reservoir. From OcUK

I don’t know your case so hard to tell what radiators you can fit in. Ideally 2 Thermochill 120.2s in series. From OcUK

If you get those radiators you will need 4 fans. Big discussions about which is best. I use Scythe S-Flex E, but Yate Loon 120mm Yate Loon D12SL-12 are very popular

Then you will need tubing (Masterkleer 7/16" Tubing- how much depends on your case and routing), distilled or deionised water, corrosion inhibitor, tubing clips (probably these- XSPC Tubing Clip For 3/8"), and ½” barbs for the radiators, pump and CPU block

Where's Cob gone ;) He usually participates in the same threads on W/Cooling
as I do, and mostly we agree:)

Don't buy a kit. IMO you will need 2 loops as watercooling your graphics cards will probably yield the most noticeable difference. I'm in the process of going water and i decided to start with a decent case. This will make setup easiler and will be better in the long run.

What case do you have?

a antec soho file server case, but i dont mind looking for another case. cheers for all your help guys i am getting there almost but any input you guys have please let me know.

thanks
