Is there much difference between the Asus P5Q and the P5Q Pro board? I'm undecided on which one to get. It will be for gaming and some overclocking, with a Q6600 and a Radeon 4870.

the question you need to ask yourself is do you need to have crossfire support, if not then the P5Q is a excelent board.
i have my q6600 running in one at 3.6GHz easily.

Salient point; for me, I like a mobo to last at least 12 months, so for the extra £40 odd was worth it to get CrossfireX support, 16-phase power <insert Tim the Tool-Man "more power" snarl here>, better heat-pipe cooling, and lst but not least, an extra fan!![]()

I think I read on some of the reviews that the higher end P5Q range have some kind of optional clip on chipset/mosfet fan?

Lol no, I'm saying that for ME, 12 months is a minimum I like mobo's to last, so £40 extra over 12-15 months isn't that much extra.
The extra fan is to provide extra cooling for the gubbins near the rear i/o port. Blows air out the back of the case, not a dealbreaker, hence the smiley.![]()
Apparently the optional fan is only required if your watercooling. Its been supplied with most high end asus boards for the past few years.Correct!
Yeah ive got four of them lying about here now. 1 from my p5q dlx and 3 from various 939 sli boards that my brother went through.Yeah the optional fan is nothing to write home about, never used it myself as it's aimed at users who water-cool and need some extra airflow running over the PWM heatsink. From what I've seen most people who watercool still use a (120mm) fan to cool the mosfets and stuff.
