This car any good?

£17k on a first car.

1. - Yes...plus it's the gastly looking clubman. :(
2. - Don't know
3. - Doesn't really matter. General consensus is over 20k miles a year and diesel is better to have.

1. Is a mini cooper a girls car:p

Not really, gay men drive them as well. Joking apart, its a great car.

2. Is this a good car to have as your first car?

Absolutely not.

3. Its petrol my dad keeps going on getting a diesel car, should it matter if its petrol?

In the nicest possible way this really isn't the sort of car, nor the sort of budget, which is right for you. Thats a very, very, very basic question and if you can't answer it for yourself you are unlikely to get £16,000 worth of benefits from a Cooper S.

Spend £6k on a 2002 Mini Cooper (not an S).

A little but its still ok for a young bloke.

2. Is this a good car to have as your first car?
No, too much to spend on the first car and too fast.

3. Its petrol my dad keeps going on getting a diesel car, should it matter if its petrol?

As someone said if your going to do 20k plus per year.

What sort of money have you got available to you, realistically?
What sort of mileage will you be doing?
What sort of car are you most comfortable with, supermini, estate, salloon etc.?

Budget for my first car really £10,000 thats more sensible i think.

Mileage, basically ill be using when i go in the army, ill be using it to drive home, and back to base when im on leave. So i could for weeks on end never use it then all of sudden have to do a 400 mile trip.

Not fussed on what sort of car really as im not very knowledgable on cars really, all i want is something to get me to A to B.

How is £10k a good idea then? There is simply no need to spend £10k on a car if you just want to get from A to B.

Why spend upto 10k on a car that you will only use when on leave?
get something very cheap so that you arent losing lots of money on a car that you arent even using.

hate tp say it.... mondeo. can get a nice ghia x cheap. it will do short and long journeys more than good enough, saving you a packet :]

crikey, my first car was £150

old F reg VW Polo, it's off the road now but still 'just' works, me and my brother nail it around the fields now (has no exhaust, so sounds terrible!)

:)

have you already passed your test?

if so, i'd test drive as many cars as possible until you find one you love

good luck
