If I found anyone getting around the filter on my network, you'd soon find your logon account disabled ;)

anyone who knows anything about computers knows a DNS resolves to an IP.. All the computer students will be having a good laugh. Friends tell friends, the block is useless.

I'm getting around my work's proxy by running firefox portable off a usb drive, with the gladder add-on. You can just go into the options and enter in a list of websites. then when it sees you're visiting one of these, it routes it by a proxy.
Though I wouldn't trust it with any passwords, so you'd be kinda stuffed if you wanted to post. Unless you change the password first, or something.

I probably insulted him at some point.

proxy.guardster.com and www.ocukmods.co.uk may be useful to you.

I used to get around idiot admins at college by connecting via remote desktop to my home PC using realvnc on a usb stick. They kept trying to block it but they never could as I'd just change the port I used, eventually they had to resort to actually speaking to me face to face and ask me to stop. They didn't seem very comfortable with that :p

They're pretty stupid if they don't block it by content either. I've yet to find a way around my BlueCoat proxy :/

Yep.

Also for the guy using an external proxy, the traffic still has to go out from your own proxy... A decent network admin should see that as an IP that isn't categorised by your own filtering software and come down on you like a ton of bricks ;)

Thankfully, I've hardly had to use it, as most sites are fine. Not heard anything from IT though. That said, when I first moved to this site, it took them a whole week to get me a login for the network, so they don't seem to be the sharpest knives.

Stupid as hell. One day at college during my lunch break I was browsing a programming website, which happened to be about game programming specifically, and the admin said I wasn't allowed on it because it was games related, so he blocked it. wtf.

Or maybe they're just very busy with more important things?

If I'm doing infrastructure maintenance a user account request will be at the bottom of my inbox.
