PSP GPS Go!Explore

Was discussed here before, and I think the vast majority thought it was a poor concept.

(Opinion here has been known to be different to the rest of the world though :D)

General consensus was that its quite expensive, meaning a tomtom can be had for a little bit more, tomtoms cant play street fighter though.

I'll agree it's quite expensive, I think I got lucky pre-ordering it before the price sky-rocketed.

All the reviews of it I've read seem quite favourable so far. I think I'll just have to wait and see what it's like. :)

I can't see how the PSP's speakers would be loud enough to give clear instructions - the volume doesn't go anywhere near as loud as you can set a TomTom at!!!

not really looked into this, but how do you input text etc as obviously the PSP doesnt have a touch screen. is it just with an onscreen qwerty keyboard you scroll through with the d-pad or analogue etc?

Big problem i have is the PSP screen itself, i was trying to use it on the train yesterday and its useless with any slight sign of sun!

unless this is sorted i dont think ill be bothering. or is there any aftermarket options for this issue?

There are plenty of non-touch screen sat navs on the market which work really well. Should be fairly easy to use without touch imo.

I can see this being a problem too - TomTom's screen is definately a lot brighter than the PSP one.

If the hardware for this is the same as the previous addons i.e. the camera & mic then i cant see it being any good, Cheap nasty plasticy junk thats expensive!!!

Hopefully i'm wrong and this GPS gadget will be half decent :)

Care to name a few ? 2/3 years ago there were a few but not now.

Most inbuilt sat navs in BMW's and Volvo's have a joystick or buttons rather than touchscreen (when I say most I'm refering to the last two BMW X5's my old man has had and my step mums Volvo's). Also I have seen a few mates sat navs which were quite cheap and have a little wheel at the bottom of the screen which is used to navigate the menus etc.

We are talking about portable devices not indash systems. The one your mates had was probably a garmin i3, two buttons and a scroll wheel/button in the middle. They came out 3 years ago and have long been discontinued.
As far as I know there are no current portable sat navs without touch screen.
