This car any good?

my first car was £400, the most expensive i've had in my 3 years of dirving was £1600 lol.

how much experience do you have with driving? why not get a cheap mondy (like suggested) older shape for 1k for a few years when once you have experience get something bigger and more expensive?

If your joining the Army you will NEED boot space, you will be going on courses, where you will need all your gear, going on leave, with loads of stuff, mates will want a ride with all there stuff, you might get into a hobby were you need more room for a roof rack, bike bars, i speak from experience here, i went from a Citroen AX GT to a Mondeo estate, as i just needed a bigger car.

I recommend you save cash and spend around £3000 on something like a Ford Focus since you wont be using it that often.

Have you not bothered to read any of this thread? He has NO IDEA what he wants other than a car to get from A to B. Does that sound like a £17k Mini to you?

His 1st suggestion was a MINI, he must like the way that it looks. This is generally the case when someone doesn't really know what they are looking for - It's based on Aesthetics.

Someone who likes the look of a mini doesn't generally like the look of a Mondeo.

Looks play a big part. we are doing our best to make sure he doesnt put himself into £17k worth of debt as he enters the forces (notoriously **** payers remember) for a car that might not be what he actually wants or needs OR will actually get any suitable use out of.

I just find it funny how his initial offering wasn't a 10 year old Vauxhall Vectra estate then based on that statement, as opposed to a brand new MINI.

Don't go for a mondeo barge as your first car, although you will get massive respect from some on here ;)

Look at a fiesta, mk4 golf, fabia, or even Dax Rush if you want a little speed :D

because a fiesta wont be too small for squaddie and his squaddie mates and all the kit ;]

I agree with what guys like Fox and Morba have said. The more you pay for a car the more money you are likely to lose on it when you come to sell, which will probably be quite soon because young drivers often look to upgrade to something more powerful when their insurance starts to drop. A £2k - £3k decent car for now would be a good idea so you shall cut your losses when you want to upgrade. If you have 10k spare then put what is left over in savings and buy something meaner in a year or so when you have a better idea of what you really want.
