Hi all

I have just purchased a Secondhand Canon Eos 20d, works perfectly except for the Flash.
The Flash pops up, signals in the viewfinder that it is working, But just doesn't flash. I have checked all the settings in the advanced menu, reset it back to factory defaults and by all means in should be firing. Works fine with an External Flash, so I know that it is Sending signal from Camera to Flash.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be, would rather not use an external flash if it can be avoided ( Had to borrow one to test ) and dont really want to pay the £130+ vat quoted to repair it.
Was wondering if anyone has an easy fix or know of a test I can do to check it's def knackered and not a contact problem. Or if there is a repair page available, same as repair page for Hot shoe Contact.
Person I bought it from said it was working last time he tried it.

Much appreciated

Kenny

I suspect it's dead. I very rarely use the built in flash on my 20D, but when I do you it (rapidly) I've noticed it getting very hot and it feels like it's burning it self out. It's not that great a flash anyway. Maybe better to use fast lens, high ISO - or and external flash.

Onboard flash is awful, consider it a blessing.

It's a blessing and a curse, I rarely use the flash because when I do need flash, it's in portrait position and the flash will leave a bad shadow on the right side of the subject. It is however a blessing when you are in a pub, you've got no fast lens and you want to take a quick snap of your group of mates. (Landscape position of course)
