Hi all. My passion is Moto-x and i never thought i would say this but im thinking of giving it up. I have recently broken and dislocated my shoulder and this was enough pain for me to think deep about what i want. Im still not 100% sure on what to do but would like some recommendations on hobbys that i could take up. I like physical activities and have thought of jet skiing but i doubt this as a hobby would last long. I have had mountain biking in my mind and i can see myself getting into that. Does anyone here do mountain biking ? If so which kind?

I will probably get replies telling me to make my own mind up but hey, surely it cant hurt for some ideas?

I look forward to your replies. I hope i can clear my mind a little as at the moment its a little screwed up.

Thanks a bunch.:)

Well Moto-X is pretty pricy (bike cost plus race entry fees). Its nothing like roadbike racing but its allot more than say tennis.

As far as location and travelling, i had to do a fair bit of travelling for my races, so i guess im prepared to drive around a little as well.

Whys that? Do you have the ultimate solution ? :p

No, not really but rock climbing and mountain biking, for instance, will probably cost you less on the whole than scuba diving.

Yeah there's loads of canoe clubs round here. There's a couple who organice big trips once a year to like canada or whatever to go whitewater too, which is a bunch of fun!

Mountain Biking

I mainly do XC, as there are only hills and bridleways around where I live. However, once in a while I head over to Peaslake, where there are some excellent single-track downhill routes which are great fun, and don't need a £700 bike to survive intact either.

Helps immensely if you own a car (opens up the map a lot more), as well as not living in a too sandy area if you want to stay local.

Going to the Lake District this summer, should be an experience.

Kiteboarding is another idea. Expensive startup costs though. The kites are huge and extremely powerful and can lift you pretty high. Overall great fun. You might have to do a bit of driving depending on location and availability of big fields or beaches.

Another vote for the kites. Either a board or buggy make it even more fun, but you can have a lot of fun with just a power kite and jumping/skudding. It only gets really expensive when you keep wanting to buy bigger and bigger kites for your quiver to cover any weather days.
