Arctic silver

woah woah there you only need to apply to one or the other not both.
So either apply to the cpu or the cooler. There are many ways to apply.
I prefere to put a blob on the cpu and wrap my finger in a CLEAN clear plastic bag of somesort and spread it using my finger.

oh dear, i have akassa tim cleaner citrus based solvent and just read applying arctic silver 5 and it says

NEVER use any oil or petroleum based cleaners (WD-40, citrus oil based cleaners and many automotive degreasers) on the base of a heatsink. The oil, which is engineered to not evaporate, will fill in the microscopic valleys in the metal and significantly reduce the effectiveness of any subsequently applied thermal compound.

What do you think i should do? just apply AS5 to the cooler as its HDT and 2 lines like it was reccomended by the review?

mmm tbh i have no idea try just applying to the cpu and see what results you get i guess. I've never heard before about not using citrus based clearns on a heatsink before.

Wow...I expect a large percentage (me included) have used Akasa AK-TC followed by AS5.
I rub the AS5 into the cooler then blob and spread with credit card on CPU.

Mind you...I've never used an HDT Cooler.

Isopropyl alcohol is the best solution for cleaning a hsf.

I always put an "X" shape on my cpu and then put the heatsink on, twist it, and remove. I then check the contact area between cpu and hsf. I keep "wiggling" the hsf on the cpu until both are covered with a very thin layer of compund. Only then do i actually fasten down the cpu cooler.

i cant believe reseating a HSF was so much work, i didnt fit it and i didnt realise they pushed in, i was trying to screw them in for ages got countless cuts, its a simple push and your done lol

Reseating did not fix my temps, theres still a big 10c difference between both cores and temperatures seem about the same, i had as5 on using a pea method then did a line this time, guess i will try applying to my cooler and check results

Ditto here , you need a good even thin layer with no air bubbles , remember 'LESS IS MORE' dont put too much on as it hinders heat transfer
