You guys heard about putting your speakers on kitchen chopping boards?

Read elsewhere about loads of people commenting on the improved sound quality of putting their speakers on granite chopping boards. Especially subwoofers...

The woofer I can understand, especially in the case of a floor which is carpeted! So I'll be trying this out for myself... (for the sake of £10)

Can't see see how speakers on stands benefit myself, or speakers on rubber feet on wooden tops, but again people say they've noticed the difference when introducing a granite slab under them!?

It seems a voodoo to me how it can work on standard speakers already on a solid base. eg: like my front ones sitting on silicon/rbber feet onto solid oak.

But the woofer makes more sense if only because the woofer speaker is 1 inch above carpet. Introducing a solid layer of granite surely must help make it less 'muddy', which I'd say mine is...

While you're at it colour in the edges of your CDs with a marker...sigh.....

Do I detect Captain Cynical? Often mistake for his twin brother, Captain Don't Really Know What I'm Talking About But I'll Stick An Oar In Anyway?

Trouble is that the same people who does this also do it with amps and CDP's which is BS. If you have your sub/speakers in a rattling cabinet or a dodgy wooden floor or any bad placement and you're getting 'boominess' and vibrations passed on then do something to isolate them, otherwise I'd think it's a lot of nonsense.

Have speakers and sub ontop of slabs, does improve it. Suspended ceiling though. Wouldn't bother for ground floors with concrete though.

People who have tried this 'granate mod', suggest the biggest improvement is with subwoofers. In my case my woofer is straight into carpet, on lino, on wooden floor boards...

So for under £10 I'm willing to try it and see what happens :)

I can imagine the woofer might end up being a bit tighter by the fact more of the bass is being reflected by the granite, than absorbed by 2cm of carpet and lilo....

Can't see it helping other speakers, but again people have suggested they've noticed a difference...!?

Well it sounds like you've already decided that it makes a difference and since you're parroting phrases from the AVS topic I don't know why you posted this really... I'd doubt that in your setup you'd be able to tell the difference double-blind. But if you believe it will make a difference then you'll be sure to hear one without the need for testing. ;)

I've suggested I can understand how it might make a difference (for my sub). And said I will take the risky investment of £10 () to see if it does indeed help...

Anyway, I apologies if me wondering if anyone here has any opinion on the matter, or seeing if anyone else is intrigued by it, offends you so much.

Go back to playing with your felt pens if you have nothing else to say other than nonsense

No need to apologise, some people really don't have a clue, or have tried it and it doesn't work. But it does work in certain situations. I have a suspended floor so in theory it should work, but stupid DBT means nothing to me and is a waste of time and effort.

Just give it a go, it's a £20 mod that might well have some effect, and if not, it looks good :)

Give it a go, I got my mats for a tenner each, and if i ever get bored of them under the speakers then they can be used in the kitchen :D

You only seem interested in 'opinions on the matter' that support your own.

You appear to have no issues with unwanted resonance or vibrations and your sub appears to be front firing. Raising it up slightly on a bit of stone isn't going to cause your carpet to absorb less.
For £10 I could get enough bricks to put all my equipment on and build a small barbecue but I wouldn't bother personally.

Stupid DBT? How is finding out whether something actually makes a difference or not stupid? It's the lack of any scientific testing and people just accepting what they;re told that has made the whole field or audio so full of nonsense, lies and gullibility.

I had this argument with Ad before - apparently A/B/X testing is stupid and a waste of time. I can only assume this is because A/B/X testing tells tweakos and the like that 95% of hi-fi bits on sale are a complete waste of money.

Noes it's just that I don't do many tweaks at all, and I would rather spend my time listening to music than comparing slightly new things here and there. But in this case we are not comparing HDMI leads, or even speaker cables (risk subject), but mechanical coupling that will make a difference. Maybe not massive with something like this, but compare having your CD-P on a wonky table that moves around all over the place when music is played at a resonable volume, compared to a well grounded and solid stand.

I bought the slabs, but installed them on the same day that I got my lyngdorf amp. I was more fussed about hearing the unleashed ATCs with this than playing around with the granite slabs I had installed. Plus I'm not that strong :p

But also from the other side, no matter how many people have posted about positive effects, the 'DBT POLICE' come wading into a thread wanting an independent test with neutral parties there, video, written, and sworn evidence to backup.

DBT is the only real way of telling if something does make a genuine aural difference, I fully agree with that, but it is just soo much hassle to do, and even if you do do it properly there will be people that call BS. Never ending circle of e-hate ;)

What's with the hate man? :( ;)

I don't know about DBT Police - if there is one i think the tweako police is a bit bigger. The best bet would be a decent magazine that did DBT tests for their testing so that they could at least be compared to the WHF's of the world and be used as reference. The fact is people out there take it for granted that something makes a difference because it's stated that it does in a magazine or on some forum on the interweb. If people don't point out the flaws in such reviews it's not exactly going to be fair on the individual, is it? (Right now i'm picturing Dr. Fox with a hammer in his hand and a crab in front of him - if anyone gets that reference)

Huh! Why are you repeatedly basically just baiting people? It doesn't take much effort to post politely... Sheesh!

1) I've said I recon my woofer sounds a bit 'muddy'. Now I have no means of measuring this, or basing it on anything other than my personal opinion and experience with other woofers in other conditions. I might be wrong, I might be right... Putting it on a slab may improve it, or may not... But for £10 it's worth a go...
2) The woofer (speaker) is down facing.
3) As for bricks, and what you do with them, and how sarcastic and clever you believe you can be... Hmm...

No hate, just much love and LSD. LSD and some aphex twin or Air would be amazing :D

DBT Police and DBT tweakos, sound slike an awesome matchup, tweakos with their cones, granite, e-forum printouts, andcables, and the police with their blindfolds and glasses on *** end of their noses. Stalemate forever I think :D:D

A decent magazine doing tests would be great. HDTV-test do great tv reviews so need an av-test website.

O and reference to scrubs ? Don't watch it, forced humor and americans annoy me :p
