Just wondered if anyone built RC stuff, from scratch. I used to build RC boats and rckets out of balsa wood when I was younger and would love to start doing something along those lines again, My creative side is itching again.

Just wondered if anyone did/does these things. If so post pictures.

Carbon fibre is also cheap and easy to get your hands on these days.

I used to have a load of Estate's rockets they were good fun for a 12-14+yr old!
Always wanted the one with a camera, though looking back that would have been a bit poop!

I wouldn't mind a CF one!

Just wish rep-rap was a bit further along. http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/ShowCase

That really would allow me to make, well what ever I wanted within reason.

That would be cool!

Actually thinking about this more i modified a RC handglider thing (made by Robbe i think) to take a much faster motor (had a stock 550 in originally) and proper speed controller!
Again modified a R/C glider into a Prop, it didnt have a speed controller due to me only having 2 channel radio equipment so hard wired the battery to the motor so it was basically at full speed till the battery died a bit! (didnt last long but it did fly!) :D all because i couldnt afford a proper prop aircraft.

Yeah been keeping my eye on rep-rap for a while. You can know by all the parts easily. But it's about £400. Which I don't think is to bad. But I would want it to make carbonfiber moulds. And I think you would have to sand them down a lot. Think I will have to wait a generation or maybe a few updates. It moves along at a reasonable pace.

I fly/build/repair r/c helicopters. They come as kits, but plenty of building and tweaking skills required. A good r/c helicopter in the hands of an expert is awesome. You can go from a couple of hundred pounds for a cheap electric all the way up to turbine powered beasts costing thousands. It is a very addictive hobby, quite expensive and probably the toughest of the R/C types to master. There is a continuous learning curve which you will probably never reach the end of.

Is that basically a cheap/DIY Rapid Prototyper?
