You can't have thought that hard about it becuase the BMW 520i has a power to weight ratio of about 110bhp/tonne which makes it better than most 2 litre repmobiles.

In a similar fashion to the OP, I've had over 800 miles showing for a tank in my 530d. It's quite easy if you just chill out. Think the computer said average of 56mpg over 200 miles.

I got bored though and got it down to 40

Yes it's an enormous problem, if you've got any of the big matrix screens (ie the Multi Info Display in the dash or the high OBC in the instruement panel) the pixels all die
