i have the OEM 32bit Vista home preimum, is there anyway possible i can upgrade it to 64bit version of Home preimum? If say i got hold of the 64bit disk? Does my product key work for a 64bit version?

Try using Search. This has been brought up loads of times. The quick answer is yes, to both questions. I did the same thing. I bought Vista Home Premium 32 bit, then upgraded to 64 bit media and used the same serial to activate it. Obviously you can only use one at a time though (i.e. you can't install 32 bit on one machine, 64 bit on another and use your serial twice).

There's a charge of approximately £16 from MS for this service. You need to speak to the system builder/OEM team as you can't order your replacement media online (retail customers can). 0870 60 10 100 or [email protected]

Awesome, paitence i suppose =/ it will give me some time to backup all my stuff ready for a fresh install! been nearly a year since my last one.

ok i called the oem people and explained the situation.... they sent me to the system builders website to order "replacement media", it cost £17 as you said. Fine all happy.

I got a email back from M$ which stats that you can't upgrade from 32bit-64bit OEM versions without buying the OEM licence all over again. What replacement media am i ordering if its not that :S

What? You most certainly CAN upgrade from 32 to 64 bit, and you do NOT need to buy a new licence. Something went wrong somewhere - ring them back. I submitted a form via email to request 64 bit media.

Actually, FAO Burnsy et al. Since MS are allowing this as a "free" upgrade and only charging for the media etc, is there anything to stop people "borrowing" discs off a friend? So say I sent this guy a copy of my 64 bit disc?...

There are no serials involved and the disc is useless without a valid COA/serial so there's no harm in that right?

Rainmaker is right, you are entitled to "upgrade". Although it's not really an upgrade, it's a crossgrade :P And it's not free, you paid for it when you bought an OEM licence, you just didn't realise you did.

As for the borrowing: it'd be fine if the EULA didn't restrict lending, although it's ambiguous to whether this refers to the product as a whole or just the media, although it would work.

DarkMatter, my email is in Trust (click the button in one of my posts, log in, close the window then click Trust again to see my details). Drop me a line and we'll discuss the EULA privately ;)
