£110 in my pocket, or a card that's maybe 5-10% quicker in some games, and slower in others, oh yeh, and doesn't have DX10.1...hmmmm, let me think...

lol maybe your right i think i may buy a couple of hard drives with that £100 change.

Does anyone know how loud the 4870 is in comparison to the 8800GT as i have one and its well noisy when it gets to 90c+
Is it worth getting an 3rd party cooler like the Akasa VC03 ?

You obviously never read my post on linearly controlling it with Rivatuner then! Silent at idle, and only a mild thrum under load, inaudible whilst playing a game, and never got above 74-76 degrees C. :)

I've just fitted a Neo Vortexx to my 8800gt, its a better cooler, allows me a bit more overclocking headroom , but it is noisier* at idle than my old cooler, but not annoyingly so.

*And I've got a fan controller sitting on my desk waiting to be fitted, so that minor niggle is going away!

I'd go for the 4870 and maybe a 3rd party cooler in this weeks deals and save yourself £70, should easily be able to overclock memory from 3600 to between 4200 and 4400 and maybe a little on the core too, depending on what OS and memory your running you could even get another 2Gb memory if you've currently got 2Gb too and still have change

Yes i think im going to go for the 4870 then and have a dabble at some OC.
Im running Vista x64 with 4gb already. :D
thx for the input.

Should also be a new version of Rivatuner out within the month so with better cooling should be able to get a decent overclock on the core, and maybe even push past 4500 memory, would prefer Rivatuner than messing with the bios editors

Imo I think a 3rd party cooler is unnecessary for the 4870. The stock cooler with controlled fan speeds is plenty good. Will be posting my Vortexx Neo/Stock cooler comparison seen.
