Pssshhh who needs noisy diesel eh !

Despite all this Diesel loving, I personally think they are rubbish unless you drive an R8.

STILL smokey, smelly, acrid fumes make me sick, small(er) torque band than most petrols, Higher purchase price, nasty particulates, and sound like tractors.

Cant see any advantage whatsoever over a petrol apart from ONE thing, and thats the obvious MPG.

Perhaps the engines last longer but until the current diesels reach the bitter end of thier lives do we know this for sure? (discounting buses, trucks etc)

The diesel R8 is pointless though.

Why if you spent 80k on a car would you car about your fuel bill?
I mean I don't see why anyone would drive a diesel by choice for any other reason than a low fuel bill.

44.8 miles.

Standard 204BHP engine running on V-Power Diesel.

what's so special about v-power diesel?
i went to Shell for the first time in years yesterday and filled up with it. i'm presuming it's the same as normal V-power, but diesel? :p

You can't have thought that hard about it becuase the BMW 520i has a power to weight ratio of about 110bhp/tonne which makes it better than most 2 litre repmobiles.

Which 520 are we each on about here. Because the one I'm on about has 150bhp and weighs ~1.75 tons.

The last 150bhp 5 Series was the 1996-2000 M52B20 engined E39. It did not weigh anything like 1.75 tons, even the 530i doesn't weigh that. It weighs about 1500kg which gives it a power to weight ratio of 100bhp/tonne.

This, whilst rubbish, is better than a Punto 1.2.

I win! :p

that was just after picking it up whilst in the middle of a network of welsh country lanes, so understandable mpg :D

Oh, and fear my silver surrounded dials :p

it's not pointless, some people prefer how diesels drive (torque i guess??), my boss drives a diesel and buys diesel everytime and he does 10 miles aday, a lot of guys on tdi-forum do low milage, they just prefer them to drive and are happily willing to pay the extra premium

more money then sense if you ask me, petrol turbo 4tw
