Yes, there were. But I can't name any that I played that literally FORCED me to save my pennies to afford a console. I didn't own a PS1 because none of the FPS's were any good, otherwise I would have saved and bought one as a kid. The only 4 FPS's that have actually made me go out and buy a new console/pc were as follows:

DOOM 1/2 - Bought a pc
COD 1 - Bought a new pc
Goldeneye - Bought an N64, best feeling in the world when I did this.
Halo - Saw it in a shop and my jaw dropped. I got addicted and saved hard for months and got an Xbox. I played it for years with friends at every opportunity and created our own little games up in multiplayer.
Halo 2 - Most of my friends buy Xbox's due to the fun they had on halo 1 and hence, it launched gaming to the masses with it's huge launch.

Nuff said.

Meh, I still played other games that I found a lot better than Halo 1 and 2. Stuff like Duke Nukem, Doom, Goldeneye etc.

Medal of Honor on the PS1 pwned console FPS. So did Goldeneye.

A lot of the problem is people like you taking comments like "great SP campaign" and "kick starting online console gaming" as being statements along the lines of "Halo is the best ever". It just blows things completely out of proportion, especially when the fans start to respond to baiting.

I don't take them as people saying it's the best ever, I was speaking of people I know who say it's the best ever. Those comments may be correct to some people and they make think it has a 'great SP campaign' and 'kick starting console online gaming', but for me, those comments don't apply, except the part about online gaming.

Because you have talked to what maybe 10 people max(?) that think its the best ever accounts for everyone who bought the game? Just accept the fact that people enjoy it even though you do not.

I don't like Metal Gear Solid but that doesn't mean I think its a crap game and come out with comments such as "I wish they would stop making this piece of ****, enough with it already!!" (not aimed at you, but I do see comments like this now and again)

I don't mind them making the games, I just said that it would be good for Bungie to stop making Halo games for a while and focus on something new. And I know a lot more than 10 people that think it's the best FPS they have played.

So regarding Halo series, some enjoyed it, some didn't.

If someone does think its the best series of games ever, good on them. If others think they are a stinking pile of rubbish, no problem.

Why are people so offended when other peoples tastes differ to their own?

My god, This thread was a good read, and to be honest, Would be half it's size if it wasnt for all the trolling and fanboyish comments found throughtout.

Anyways, I wasn't all that impressed with Sonys offerings.

Don't get me wrong, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 look fantastic (Resistance 2 being the better of the 2 from the look of things)

LBP looks more impressive than i realised!! Really looking forward to that, Bored now of waiting for home

Infamous looks like Crackdown on steroids, So i'm very excited about this.

MAG: Has the potential to be the biggest multiplayer action game so far, So i'm praying it is lol.

Now to watch the 360 vids

Which is why I always say, it's personal preference. Someone may enjoy a game that has been rated the worst game ever by numerous review sites etc. Yet some people will dislike games that are reported as 'groundbreaking' by these same review sites.

I did say that part wasnt aimed towards you

I just get comments like the example I gave all the time and just because they dont like the game deem it necessary for the sequels never to be made. Some people in the past have been so petty as to add me to MSN or Email me to tell me how crap the game is
