Mindblowing technical death metal, not hugely original or progressive, but hard, fast and ****loads of fun. The drumming is excellent on this, very dynamic and sophisticated (great cymbal work), not just endless blast beats.

I didn't care much for the vocals though, not that they are bad (I wouldn't really know eitherway :o) but they seem out of place and tacked on. Oddly enough, the dude who does the vocals on the track Icon of Malice sounds much better suited to the music.

Still, I say highly recommended!

That's generally the way with a lot of technical metal and stuff like Meshuggah, DEP, BTBAM, SikTh etc. There's such a heavy concentration on the time signatures that it's impossible to put a vocal melody over the top.

The only band I like which is similar to those bands is Textures. They actually know what to do with a song to make it interesting and they have their fair share of very good clean vocals.

Sorry to continue the OT. But I wouldn't say it's impossible. They get it right a lot of the time. They're talented enough to know when its a good idea to have a vocal or not. So i don't think thats entirely true about it being impossible :)

No it's not impossible, just difficult, if you did clean vocals all the time you would end up with some weird vocal melodies like in To-Mera. Clean vox make an appearance in DEP/BTBAM about 25% of the time, presumably because a lot of the stuff is so technical and heavy that it's easier to scream over it. Then you have stuff like Behold...The Arctopus and Spastic Ink which is so tehcnical it's all instrumental - no point in vocals! But then I'm not really a fan of that style. It lacks in soul and atmosphere.
