80Gb PS3 out Aug 27 th in UK (not BC)

I still have my PS1 and PS2 so I'm not really bothered about BC. I'll probably buy a PS3 when they release this 80GB bundle in the UK, and hopefully they will actually include some good games with it for once. Seriously, one of the major factors in why I didn't get a PS3 back in December last year was because the bundles sucked, all's they were offering were movie tie-in games, no thanks.

Isnt it possible to do bc with software? There was a leak whichh showed ps3 games on the psn store, so surely its possible?

Yes, there is free program called PCSX2 which allows you to play ps2 games on the pc (legally). Amazing that a few people can create a ps2 emulator in their spare time, while a multi billion dollar company like Sony can't even create one when they have all the detailed technical information not released to the public and are working 24/7!

Sony never have been known for listening to their customers though.

Its probably more of a case of sony trying to entice its customers into buying more profitable PS3 titles than keeping with there ps2 games.
+ There probably isnt any money left in selling ps2 titles to recoup the cost of properly developing and producing a PS3 with backwards compatibility.

They already had a ps3 with backwards compatibility, the 60GB version. Which pretty much everyone was willing to pay the extra £5 for the EE, the 60GB PAL and 80GB NTSC version even had software emulation.

Why not?

Surely they must be cheaper to manufacture and with the removal of features they must be saving even more money.

They are still selling the ps3 for a loss.

It's one thing making an emulator, it's completely different making one which runs all games at 100% speed without glitches entirely in software (ie worthwhile using).

Sounds to me from the comments from Tretton that removal was an order from above so it's outside their control anyway.

I know one of the guys who made PCSX2, and once they got the technical plans for the PS2, It was quite easy to bring the Emu up to speed on the PC.

Odd, very odd. Most people waiting for this were waiting for BC. They ain't gonna be happy. Can't be that hard for Sony to add it, surely? Do they think only Europe don't care about BC?

It's another SKU on the market too :p.

At least they'll come with Dual Shock 3 controllers. Wonder if they'll give EU users the options of different coloured controllers.

Or look at it this way, Sony want people to keep buying PS2 titles as well as the PS2 hardware which is still making them a decent profit. I'm pretty sure the PS2 sold out at Xmas.
