8800GT 512mb vs 4850 512mb

(cough) Call of duty 1 on any G80/G92 card has problems but none with ATI. I was playing a lot of that still about 7 months ago but my GTX is problematic in this game. It's the only issue I've had with either Nvidia or ATI. I never find bad support for ATI or Nvidia for older titles at all.

Yup COD1 is also one that gets a mention as having poor performance in both NV and ATI on post DX10 kit, is fixed in 175.19.

Thing is NV is actually addressing these issues.

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33927065 thread on Rage3d about this issue, and possible fixes applicable to Nv and ATI.

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=21028 list of current issues with G80> hardware, pretty interestingand runs till present day.

Should mention I have a HD4870 and a 8800 GTS in different machines, hence my interest, I also have a stupid amount of old games.

Well it must only have issues on the new 4850/70 then as it ran fine on my 2900Pro and X1900XT before that. My friend in Holland and I both encountered problems on the G80 and G92 on CoD1. I also played CoD1 recently (3 weeks ago) on new drivers and still get the problem.

This is the only game I've had a problem with so from my view it's a rarity. There were things you could do to minimize the stuttering but it never went away completely.

I can't comment on older games though as if I don't play them then I won't experience it. I didn't know about those other games though. I hope it gets sorted for you as I know how it feels as I love the first Call of Duty game. It's pretty frustrating that new hardware that rips through games like Call of Duty 4 are struggling on the first one lol.
